Until recently I did not know anyone else who had a tank... made friends with Bec at upholstery class, went to visit at her new house and she has a lovely gourami tank.

Other than that my aqua-savy friends are either online or FP'ers I met who are now friends IRL.

Just interested to know if this is the case with you....

So, are you swimmin' solo or shoaling IRL

Just me, the family still thinks 65 gallons is HUGE and asks, Why don't you put bigger fish in your tanks? and Another tank - but you already have one!

My friends and family are still stuck in the 60's when it comes to fish tanks, so I think cycling a tank is beyond them, let alone wabi-sabi and the philosophies of aquascaping planted aquaria. FPers and other online people are the only ones I discuss them with.

I voted "just me" because, even though I know people that have fish IRL, they aren't 'into' it like me. They don't talk fish, order fish online, read about fish, go to fish sites, or anything. They just 'have' a tank. Some of them are doing it really badly too, but they won't listen to my advice....go figure.

So, I'd have to say that my real fish buddies are in computer land....although I have talked to a few on the phone.

Don't know what to vote. My mom is the other fish person in the family (with an aptitude for killing my plants )

Sometimes I'll run across someone I know IRL who keeps fish, but usually not very well, or I haven't seen them in a long time (I had a coworker "Mike the fish guy" who was a reefer and knew a lot about all but plants). And I know a guy who has a reef tank but I don't talk to him much, he's just in a couple of my classes...

Well I have one friend who finally got a tank after me telling him he should. I was telling him for weeks he should get one and he said no, then one day he said, "I should get a fish tank". It was really funny. But other than that just him really, and one person i kno from my reef club that lives near me.

its me sk8freak20...i need to get premie so i can change my name back

I got my best friend into the hobby, but I take care of his tank for him. My SIL got back into the hobby because of me.

I have the same problem as Nowher...the family thinks 55g is huge! And when I mention another tank...they tell me I have enough already.

My family also thinks I'm a little weird for going to fish websites, talking to people online about fish, and reading magazines and books about fish. A few of my friends have seen my tanks and are kind of wow-ed...but aren't interested in having any.

I'm in the isolation tank!

edit: Oh I remember that my aunt had a fish tank when I was younger...she's the only one I can think of though. She had 2 of them for awhile, but I can't remember what kind of fish (FW). I know at one time they had it really overstocked (said they had Discus, tetras, and more in a 38g), so who knows what else was in it.

Gee, this is interesting. Thank you all for sharing.... I think we are like a community of betta barracks... all on our own side by side.

Bec is coming over on sunday for some fish wrangling /:'

I've gotten a few friends into it, & re-educated a few that had rather scary tanks too . My nephew is a work in progress, he has a goldfish that he loves, & the first thing he does whenever he comes to my place is visit the fish, so i think there's potential there

Wow this is really interesting..... most so far are swimmin' solo.... no wonder we love fp so much.

My friend wanted to set up a tank. Even paid me for my old one... just wanted a bit of time before setting it up. Turns out she had to convince her bf (now husband). I ended up giving her the money back. I didn't want to be the cause of any tension in their household. Shame though.

Sin ~ great to have you back.
