any way to do this on the cheap? Jerry's girlie has laid again, and althiough she is still sitting, her attantion span is about 12 das, which isnt enough. Last time she hopped right off them and that was it.

We have 2 eggs this time, we HAD 3 but she tossed one out.

so, how can we rig up an incubator?

here is a piccie of her in her "nest" last time

Can't you just buy one of those little cheap incubators they use in school experiments? They only hold like two or three eggs, and would be perfect.

You could always eat them.. But hey, if you can buy an incubator, go for it.

you could sit on them urself lol j/k

buy an incubator but they r expensive .... when my african greys lay they incubate them all the way until they are 3 weeks old so i just have to have a heat lamp ready for them

buy her a nesting box they r not expensive and just attach it somehow to the cage just leaving the hole so she can get into it if yah get what i mean

Try providing her with a nest box. She would feel more secure in there, and may incubate the next clutch all herself.

If you really want to make an incubator, just find yourself an old bar fridge or an esky etc then hook up some heat globes and a thermostat. It should cost you under $100 if you can get yourself a fridge for free.
I've never artificially incubated eggs myself though, so you'd have to do a bit more research on that. I usually just foster my eggs out if the parents won't incubate them.

Also, are you prepared to hand raise the young yourself? In about two weeks i'll probably be raising some grass parrot chicks. It's a hell of a lot of work..

i dont have a problem with raising the chicks, i've done it before (tho, not from eggs-size i'd need a book....) so that bit doesnt worry me, its just getting the darn things to hatch in the first place.

hfeeding babies from the day tehy r born is hard they need more calcium to help there bones grow ...... otherwise they get something called rickets ... that is where there feet and calws are all deformed and they cant purch or land properly or even fly properly for that matter so make sure u know what ur doin before u attempt hand rearing from the egg!

I cant keep them, so if they do hatch, you can certainly have one

I bought a HeatGlo lamp and ceramic fitting yesterday, and i *think* it will work. I have a 6pack esky that i could use, and i can rig up the lamp over the nesting trough anyway if it comes to it.

I'll try to get a nice piccie of the father tonight
