Some kind of wood-borer, I think? Its body was about 2cm long.

After searching on BugGuide, the closest thing I can find is subfamily Cerambycinae of the Longhorn Beetle family, but I don't see any species that look like the one I found.

And here's just a particularly good-looking Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis) I found today.

I'll have to ask someone about that beetle though, I still haven't figured out what it is...

Not that I know anything about bugs, but where'd you find it?

I found it drowning in the broken hottub/makeshift pond in my yard. I guess it was lucky I found it before the water striders attacked it or the Mosquitofish could pick at it to death. After I got it out it spent a few minutes cleaning itself and then flew away.

I would imagine, however, that if I had not found it the water it would have been on a tree or shrub, as typical for most members of the family.

Here's some sort of wasp-mimicking moth I found a few minutes ago in the same situation:

The stripes on the moth remind me of a beetle I saw this past weekend when we were at the waterfall. I would have taken a pic if I wasn't in the process of falling down the rockface.

This little guy was 5mm max, and perfectly even red and green horizontal stripes that made it look like a elf sock. I really wish I'd been able to get a pic (instead of falling) as I just tried to look on google and couldn't find anything remotely similar

^_^

The beetle is almost certainly a long horned species. I forget what it's called, but it's realtively commonplace up here.

I found out what it is... It's a Typocerus serraticornis.

And I found some type of bug today I don't think I've seen... I think it might be a juvenile Largus species (plant bugs).

Definitely a plant bug, but of which family--I'm thinking it's a redbug nymph but the memelytra of such juveniles are generally not so...shiny.
