I went to Chinatown in Chicago and found these guys in a small touristy shop. You can see pics of them here:

http://theneedsofthefew.blogspot.com

They were $10 for two. I wanted to buy them all and release them in the wild.

I also have a pic of live eels from a grocery store! Can you keep those guys in an aquarium?

Captive reptiles should never be released into the wild, and in most places it is actually illegal to do so. I can't really tell from the picture, but the eels are probably some type of Conger Eel. They can be kept in aquaria, but need an extremely large tank.

Yep, definately illegal. The shell must be at least 4" in diameter to sell. How sad.

Ok, now I am in michigan, I dont know if all of what I am going to say is nation wide or just state or in other countrys. but here goes

but thats partly wrong. i know because i have been investigating them before i purchased mine. but what the deal is, that for anybody of any age to purchase them they must be 4 inches. but an adult (over 18) can purchase the the ones under 2 inches, but have to sign a waver stating that they are for scientific purposes only and that they will monitor any contact that children will have with them.

and all of this was put into place because children were putting the smaller ones in their mouth and getting salmonella poisoning from them.

I think if kids were allowed to get salmonella once in a while, maybe they would learn not to put turtles in their mouths. Kids today are too sheltered.

I was climbing redwood trees, catching snakes, raising bugs, and taking care of fish by the time I was five.

Conger Eel ... now there's an interesting fish.

Don't know if those eels ARE Congers, but this page has some interesting images and statistics for the species found in UK waters. Take a look at the one staring out the scuba diver near the bottom of the page - I reckon that one is a good 80 lbs or so in weight. The European species is a beast - big ones reach 3 metres (nearly 10 feet) and tip the scales at 110 Kg, or 250 lbs. Not my idea of a practical aquarium fish ...

natalie, you couldnt have nailed that nail on the head with anything larger. soo soo true. bike helmets? uh yea people wore them back in the 80s, but those were the "special" kids. and i know 10000% because i had a brother that did.

i still dont wear a helmet, only time anybody needs a helmet for sure is rollerblading.

but yes turtles are nice and fun. i'm still thinking about getting one or two. i just have to plan what i'm going to do when they get to large

That is almost certainly not a conger---aside it being glossed over in the golden color commonly attributed to "yellow" phase anguilla, congers at that size tend to be quite thin/ of little economic importance.

Also, someone from my high school cracked open his head riding a bike a few years back (no deaths occured, but still)...yep, no helmet. Therefore, it's not logically sound to say that no one needs a helmet "for sure", because that dude could've certainly used one right then. It hardly makes you more testosterone-bound to strut around proudly declaring that you don't wear helmets while biking.

My favorite dish was probably the Vegetarian Crepe. Reminded me of a dish my mom makes every once in awhile.

Thank you everyone for visiting my blog! I hope to see you guys in there real soon!
