The nest is well over 18ft off the ground and rather than risk my own neck this bird will have to be hand raised. I have it seated on a heating pad. Any volunteers? I think it could be a fig bird but I am not sure what to feed this baby. So far I moistened up an egg and biscuit mix with water and it swallowed it. I found 3 immature little grasshoppers and it swallowed them too. I think pretty much anything going near its mouth is going to disappear down the hatch. The baby: The nest: Suspected bird species: |

Contrary to what many people believe, the parents will indeed continue to care for it as long as you place it back in the nest. Wild baby birds are notoriously difficult to care for, particularly for those who are not licensed wildlife rehabilitators. See if you can find someone with a tall ladder to borrow, or call wildlife rehabilitators/a local fire department to see if they can lend you a ladder or even place the bird back in its nest. If you are unable to put it back, don't try to keep it yourself... Find someone who is authorized and experienced with caring for wildlife and turn it over to them. In fact, it is in all likelihood illegal for you to keep the bird in your own care. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

They have several of these same species baby birds which they are caring for so they will be able to release them all together as a group when they are big enough. The nest was in such a position that it was impossible to return the baby. He will do just fine with the wildlife carers. |
