Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

I should go watch it...I only recently downloaded Da Ali G Show, and it's been subpar thus far.

I've heard the Borat Movie isn't as good as Da Ali G Show, but it should still be pretty funny. I didn't get to go see it this weekend, I was too busy cleaning fish tanks, feeding snakes, and studying for my second set of midterms.

Know what's really funny about the Borat movie?

The Kazakhstan foreign ministry has threatened to sue the comic Sacha Baron-Cohen, who invented Borat and several other comic characters, alleging that his comedy is part of a sinister plot against Kazakhstan ...

"We do not rule out that Mr. Cohen is serving someone's political order designed to present Kazakhstan and its people in a derogatory way," Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Yerzhan Ashykbayev said Monday in a press conference.

First of all, in which court would they sue him? Chances are the suit would be thrown out of any Western court on the basis that it was a complete waste of time, so they'd have to launch the suit in a more friendly legal system ... which brings forth the spectacle of Kazakhstan suing Borat in absentia in one of their own courts. Which, if they did so, would see the Kazakhstan government behaving in exactly the manner that would be expected if the Borat caricature was real.

Oh, originally the Borat official website was located at www.borat.kz (the .kz ending being the official Internet specification for Kazakhstan) but someone shut down the website. Which, apparently, caused considerably more damage to Kazakhstan's reputation than the website's contents. This information was provided by no less a personage than one of the three daughters of kazakhstan's leader - Dariga Nazarbayev also spoke in Baron-Cohen's defence and lamented the ridiculous tizzy that her father's government was getting itself into over this. Don't know if she's since skipped the country and sought political asylum, but I gather telling jokes about the leader isn't a good way to maintain bodily integrity if you're living there ...

I saw it last night... It was pretty good.

Not as funny as Jackass 2, but it was really funny. Better than I expected.

My favorite part was probably when Borat was making a speech at some huge rodeo in Texas and he's like "We support your war of terror... May George Bush drink the blood of every man, woman, and child in Iraq!" - and then the audience starts cheering. But then Borat starts singing about how glorious Kazakhistan is to the tune of the American anthem, and the audience starts booing and yelling at him.

It was quite genius.
