Since some of the fish that have been recommended to me by the wonderful people on this forum are not stocked at a store near me, what is it like to order online? Or can I special order at my chain pet store (PetSmart). There are no other fish stores that I can travel to close to my area, so what is the best to do? AND, if I order online, or special order, am I paying WAY too much?

Specifically, I was looking at Sparkling gouramis and panda corys...

I just recently ordered 3 fish for my SW tank. The prices of the fish are often better than they would be at an LFS, but the shipping can sometimes offset that if you only get something small or don't spend much money. Each fish I ordered was $24.99 or something, and overnight express delivery was like $28. So, although the shipping was more than another fish, it was worth the money because it was something I was not able to pick up locally. There are also several online vendors that have free shipping if you spend $175 or whatever it may be.

I was a bit hesitant to order live fish online as I had never done it, but everything went very well. The particular store had a 7 day live arrival thing anyways, which is 7 days longer than any of the LFS's around here have on marine fish.

I'm not sure if a Petsmart type place would order certain fish for you. I'm sure they have the ability to do so, but that doesn't mean they would. I have had to special order some things from the petstore though without problems, never fish though.
