So,I'm in the process of setting up my 65gal mbuna tank & decided today would be a good day to go rock hunting.
I know of a rocky creek about 20 kms from home with a causeway, where we used to go for picnics about 15 years ago.
Luckily for the country it has been raining steadily for the past 2 days, but, unluckily for me,the road I needed to use was flooded,so I went to the next causeway about 2 kms upstream. The only problem being I had to park on top of a hill, as the dirt roads had turned to mush & I didn't want to get stuck.
Off I went, picking up suitable rocks & carrying them back up to the car.
I decided I would like to have a look at my originally planned spot,so I headed off downstream.
When I got there I found 3 large, charcoal coloured, slate type rocks. Hmmm ? They looked pefect.
What to do ? Wasn't sure how long it would be before I got back here again. Carry them ???
I've been suffering from depression on & off for the past 8 years & had a fairly bad bout about 6 weeks ago, along with some rather severe anxiety attacks,so, I've been on long service leave for the last 6 weeks while I get myself sorted out.
So,I thought dammit I'm going to carry them back. There I was, 2 kms downstream, in the pouring rain, walking back upstream,in a rocky creek ( no way to get out of said creek other than following it )carrying about 30kilos of rocks in my arms & probably a few more kgs in my pockets.
I walked about 300 metres & thought,this is ridiculous !

But,I thought,no I'm going to use this as my own version of therapy. I kept going, stopping occasionally to make sure I didn't drop dead & finally emerged at the other end.
Damn,forgot about that hill!
Finally made it I remember thinking " God I hope these rocks are alright in the aquarium "
Then, I thought to myself,it doesn't matter if they don't.
I've just done one of the silliest things I've done in ages, but,I completed the task I'd set myself, felt absolutely stuffed ,but, felt proud of myself for not giving up.
I'd been advised to do a lot of walking, as physical exercise takes your mind off your perceived woes, but,I found that getting thru what I had committed myself to,had left me feeling the most mentally buoyant I had felt in ages.Perhaps when we're feeling a bit low,a good physical challenge can help.
I apologise if you have read this & thought "what a load of drivel" but, I found it therapeutic writing it.
Cheers....Ash

"forgot about that hill!"

!
Excellent story Ace. I hope those rocks go good in the tank, they say watching the fishies help too.

30 Kilos though, that's almost as much as I weigh .

Interesting story Ace. Yes, accomplishing something does the soul good & makes you fell better. And physical exercise has a LOT to do with us mentally. We were made to move & work.

And writing can be therapeutic. Maybe that's why I have so many posts on here.

If you can, post pics of your tank when your done.

Happiness is..........accomplishing what you have set out to do.
