I have a computer that is beeping.

Like the computer is sitting there on and not doing anything and every-now-and-then it will beep twice.

I think it is coming from the motherboard. Nothing has been added or taken off of the system.

I am just puzzled. It is about 3 years old - ASUS motherboard if that helps???

do you get any video at all? if not, then something is wrong with either your hard drive, video card, ram, cpu or motherboard.

edit: does it beep twice all the time, or do you get a series of beeps when it boots up? if you get a series of beeps, try to count how many it gives you, it should give you 2 sets of beeps when you first turn it on if you have no video

Check your motherboard instruction manual, it will give you the beep codes for whatever problem it's encountering.

Just a beep is fine, it's if you've got a countdown clock that's counting down that you need to worry about

It beeps normal when it boots up and the computer works fine.

But when it is on it beeps 2 times. Not on a regular basis but regualar enough to tick you off with the sound!

I took the ram out and put it back in and it seemed to help a little as it didn't beep after that for a little while and well I turn the power off from the wall over night last night and so just waiting too see if that helped.

It hasn't beeped yet (fingers crossed) but the computer has only been on for about 10 minutes!

Keep you all posted. Will try and look for the motherboard book to see what it is.

maybe the battery on your motherboard needs to be changed? i can't think of any other reason for it to beep after the computer is running for awhile

Rast, are you in NSW? if so, could it have been an overheating alert? its been stinking hot here and we have had fans going madly to keep the modem and router cool as they were conking out.

Nah I am on the Sunshine Coast - Perfect one day and well perfect the next!

The computer lives in Air-con so overheating isn't a problem.

Will be asking the boss son this weekend to have a look at it as he made it for us.

So hopefully it will be something simple.

That is what I am thinking it is. The battery maybe. But who knows.
