Im gonna moan again. Dont think sticking a camera on an arachnid is humane. I dont see a way of attaching it that wont damage its thorax or risk breaking its joints. Id be very surprised if that tarantula survives its next slough.

A bit of scotch tape would probably hold it on pretty well and wouldn't damage the carapace. Also, this almost certainly is not wild, US-native tarantula (desert-dwelling species usually aren't out and about during the day), so it is probably a Rose Hair Tarantula. An average adult Rose Hair (particularly a female) would have no problem carrying a small, lightweight camera.

Still not good in my humble opinion. I dont think ill be taping anything to tarantulas anytime soon. Still seems a bit dumb and exploitative to me. Trouble is tarantulas ares strong but not designed to take weight - id consider it a cruelty, just cos I can, i wouldnt want to carry a sack of potatoes around all day, and id probably punch someone who forced me to do it. Second I dont reckon youll get that tape off without at least pulling a few hairs, and that isnt nice for the spider. Just cos they can kick hairs doesnt mean they want some ripped out. If that tarantula could just shake that camera off - it would have done so- so I suggest it is probably firmly attached , possibly even glued.

Besides which its completely pointless. I cant really say that video impressed on quality or showed us anything we didnt know it would do just by working it out in abstract. Its just a novelty thing, and I dont think putting that animal out was worth the novelty even if it wasnt harmed, although im betting it didnt get away from the incident scott free.

I think its a question of shouldnt rather than couldnt. It may only be a spider, but i still think its should be treated with respect. After all were only human, that species that above all others has no ecological value. For me, that spider gets more respect from me than most humans purely because its rarer, more fragile , and more useful to the planet. Hassling spiders for a video shot just seems a bit ..well..shabby.

Leave the poor little buggers alone I say!

by how the camera jumps slightly, i'd say time lapsed. but i agree and disagree.

it all depends on how they attach it. obviuosly, as long as its done humanly and causes no stress to them, they'd be ok.

similar to those explorers strapping those light weight cameras to the penguins. one major advantage, you get to learn alot about any animal without disturbing them. well obviously the camera may slightly depending on size.

but that still leaves the point with the spider, who'd be stupid enough to even try that? unless they caught the thing, then knocked it out with gas or something first.

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction
