It was completely based on a "what if" premise. I thought it was quite well done, really. If y'all watch it from the beginning, it tells ya that.

I personally think they came up with interesting theories as to how something so big can fly, and how they spit fire. The "what if" theory was based on how almost every culture in the world has some dragon legends, despite the fact that they never interacted before.

The website for the show is [link=http://www.dragonsarecoming.com]http://www.dragonsarecoming.com" style="COLOR: #9900FF[/link].

Do they really?

Asian dragons: Wise, majestic creatures of goodness. Coming from the heavens, they have a serpentine appearence. Sporting barbels, elk horns, and fur like that of an overgrown canine, they are lacking in most reptilian characteristics.

Old World (Euro) dragons: Dark, evil creatures with a distinctive reptilian body structure, remeniscent of a modern dinosaur. A long extended neck is present, and they breath fire. Wings are also commonplace.

As can be seen, the two "major" classifications, if you will, of dragons look nothing alike.

I'm pretty sure you didn't ask "what if"; rather, you wondered why these cultures all wrote of dragons.

My answer was that they don't. Each culture speaks of an entirely different organism, but roughly translated into English, they are labelled simply as "dragons".

Which cultures? Many cultures have spoken of dragons, true, but the extent to which they are similar is the fact that they are large, scaly retilians. Chinese depicted dragons as large, benevolent beings, whilst Europeans saw them as evil monsters--in a similar fashion, African "dragons" were seen as derivatives of snakes.

My personal theory on why so many cultures believe in Dragons? Dinosaur fossils. Find one of those (and some of them are easy to find, like in Drumheller for example) and if you didn't know better, you'd think dragon. Especially the winged ones. Especially in ancient cultures. And if an explorer happens to come back from an exotic locale with large reptiles, he could interpret them as dragons.

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!

Oh the future is wild. How I hated that one. Acid-puke spitting walrusses that are really birds? Sounds like something out of a commic book. Although we can't forget the animal olympics. The wirlygig beetle was set up!

I think all of animal planet's CGI series are rather lame. Both in "THE FUTURE IS WILD" and "DRAGONS", as I watched, I cringed at the impossibilities of such species in regard to the limits of animalian physiology. Though the series were definitely imaginative and beautifully rendered, I really can't see myself watching them over again.

Chris, the autopsey was pretend.
It is kind of interesting how the dragon myth spread, but I am more inclined to believe in something like bigfoot or Nessy than dragons.

The explanations were very interesting, especially since were talking about imagination. Whoever wrote this was no dummy.

I think I saw on another Animal Planet show that in Anglo Saxon culture (and subsequently countries/ cultures influenced by the British Empire), the idea of dragons came from African crocodiles.
For cultures that had dragon myths before the British reached them, I'm assuming they based the stories on shallow dinosaur skeletons or derived them from human archetypes of monsters and the such.

Hmm..interesting.
I think that there is no dragons, but it can have been a kind of dinosaur
We still find new speices of animals all the time.
I belive on day we will find something interesting in the deep of the sea.we only know a few percentage of the deep sea.just wait and one day we will have better equipment to go really deep and then we will see if there is something we have never seen before

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.
