ooooo Heidi I don't feel bad! In fact I love it! You can have a BBQ on the beach on Xmas day followed by beach cricket and a swim... loads of seafood and fresh fruit like wish-ga said... and our Xmas/New Year holiday is also our summer holiday so we have all those long, lazy days ahead to look forward to. Christmas in summer is the BEST!

Whetu, don't feel bad...in Northern Hemisphere in some places, it is still feeling like summer. Here in Houston today it was about 30*C...and there is 13 days left till Christmas? I might get to turn off the AC by January... Then again...maybe not...At least we aren't hitting 38*C anymore, and it is getting cooler at night 16*C there about...Christmas is coming, ment to put up Pugperson's outside lights this weekend well, oops...didn't happen...maybe next weekend...

yes Whetu it is summer in this 1/2 of the blob (globe) but the shops still play all the traditional songs "winter wonderland" etc. Weird but gee the food is good this time of year with all the seafood and tropical fruits available. All that AND you can have the traditional Northern Hem roasts too if you choose.

Doesn't get any better than that does it?

But how's the parking at this time of year?!!!?

Babel if you don't celebrate for religious reasons then you are definitely not the only one. If you abstain for other reasons then that is your choice. But I am sure if colleagues and friends give you a card and best wishes for the time of year you don't take offence...it is just that you don't personally do that. Nothing wrong with that.

we don't have Christmas in winter... we have it in mid summer And summer would still be my favourite season even if we didn't have Christmas!

*fetches babe to help decorate her Christmas tree*

I like Winter because of the skiing too. I love snow. Been up in the mountains already, can't wait to go back.
Yeah, the presents are nice, but Winter would still be my favorite season if we didn't have Christmas...

Two pretty sad choices there Babel. Being alone or teased.

I'd say somebody somewhere did not handle something right if I correctly read into your statement what appears to be there.

I celebrate Christmas. Although, I refuse to celebrate Christmas prior to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving to me is the number one holiday. It's a magical time of year. Just when you think that lifes burdens are becoming a tad much to handle, here comes a Holiday Season meant to remind us of hope, charity, gathering with our family and friends and it brings about a spirit of giving. Regardless of what you do or do not believe, what is there not to celebrate in that?

That is the wonderful thing about Christmas, there are no requirements! It is what you make of it. I'd say you tend to get out of the holiday season exactly what you put into it.

Bring It On!!

Nope, can't say I've "celebrated" this time of year for a while. Living in Indonesia which is a predominantly Muslim country, Christmas just kind of sneaks by. No lights, no frantic shopping, usually a normal work day, hot as hell as always so it doesn't even feel like December let alone Christmas. Don't go home for Christmas anymore as my wife can't take the cold damp Irish winters, Ireland is for for that period of the year that passes for summer there.

Do go out and get sloshed on New Years Eve though, that's a given

For a couple of years I didn't bother decorating the house or really celebrating. Since I have had my granddaughter living with me, I set up the tree and go through all the traditions handed down in my family. Sometimes I think the holidays are much more enjoyable when you can see it through a child's eyes.

Spouse and I grew up in Christian families, but we're both non-religious now. Even without the 9 kids :%) we'd celebrate though.

I like the tree, lights, candles; and I do actually enjoy buying gifts for family and close friends.

Well, hard to say really, I don't celebrate Christmas in the traditional sense, but I do meet with family and exchange gifts. We have an Xmas tree, but (without getting into too much here) my family isn't Christian and we don't celebrate any of the religious stuff. I do celebrate the winter solstice, like whetu.

As far as celebrating goes, I don't think you have to have a rigid tradition to celebrate the holiday season in general. Just crack open a carton of egg nog, curl up by the fire and celebrate the times you have with friends and family. :88)

LOVE this time of year. But mostly for the family and the skiing. I hardly ever get to see the fam, so that's nice. And what could be better than spending time out in the snow.....and going really fast, cutting hard turns. Oh man I can't wait to get up in the mountains.

just because you're not christian doesn't mean you don't have to appreciate the holiday season. you don't have to celebrate christmas, but there are plenty of other winter time things that could use some celebrating

You're all alone on this one!

I'm celebrating the summer solstice, the Gregorian New Year and a friend of mine being released from prison yesterday (only on bail but at least he's out for now).

Babel I thought you loved winter? Aren't you celebrating the solstice?
