Im not a fan of much of their new stuff(St. Anger), but I really like their older stuff. I guess they just rocked harder back then?

metallica used to rock.
Now they suck a**. Lars Ulrich is a ...well I wont say here, and Kirk Hammet quit.
Note exactly a cool band anymore.
I am a true fan of their "pre-Load" albums.
The black album and Justice for all being the best 2 albums, with Master of Puppets in a close third.

Agreed. metallica USED to kick major butt, but they turned all stupid with the advent of Napster and the coming along of crappy bands like Limp Bizkit and that other garbage "hardcore" band they toured with.

I like anything before load, load and re-load were garbage, and always will be garbage.

I tend to think MOP was their best album.

i can't believe what i'm seeing here

a discussion of the best metallica albums and NOT ONE MENTION of ride the lightning???? metallica does *NOT* rock properly without cliff burton on bass and ride the lightning is their hands down, bar none, without a doubt BEST album ever.

Meedly Meeddly Meedly MEEEEEEEE!

I'll agree with past metallica rocking, especially old stuff like Ride the Lightning. That's what got me into guitar, not that I play a lot.

In S&M, I think the song was for whom the bell tolls, he screamed "YOUUUU BETCHA!" Needless to say I about died laughing. What is that anyways? You betcha...still cracks me up.

Kirk Hammet Quitting!! I THINK NOT!! For god sakes my man....they are still on tour!!!!!! Check differently.. www.metallica.com And for the record....if all metallica played was what was MOP and before... nothing would change.. and they would have been gone a long time ago.. succces is made by change,. Britney spears for example changed from little school girl to miss vixen..or how ever you would describe her..that made her more successful... headbanging was done in the 1980's.. and it stayed there.

but metallica MADE themselves by allowing fans to have bootlegs of their music. and then when napster came along with a way to get music for free, suddenly metallica is against fans having their music for free. it's not so much about the music for me (although i agree their last couple albums have pretty much sucked) but the fact that they "sold out" to the industry when in reality the service they fought against was how they became popular in the first place

But they didnt become popular because of napster. Their beef...(lars' more so) was that people were getting recordings of music that was not finished and was somehow let out into the industry. They dont care if you donwload the music as long as they are finished with the final product. Take for Example.. I Disappear. This was the song that got the whole napster thing going... meaning.. it was taken and put out in the world before it was finished. I do agree with you on Ride the Lightning... great album... Put put things in perspective.. if you arent finished with a song.. would you want it able to be downloaded?? do some more research and find out WHAT the real beef was...

i know what their beef was, but i still think they are selling out to the industry. the people that are truly hurt by stopping things like napster are the fans, because the *TRUE* fans are going to buy the cd anyway, or at least they will be coming to the shows. the band almost never sees any real money from their albums unless they sell multi-million copies. their real money comes from touring.

so to the *TRUE* fans of any band, yeah, i'm sure a lot of them would want to hear demos and unfinished products. i have half a cd of tmbg demos and unreleased material that became other songs, and i love listening to it, AND i got it for free. but metallica for whatever reason decides that instead of letting people share their music (which made them popular in the beginning) they would rather take the industry side and sue for profits off of songs they may or may not actually record someday.
