Hey chuckie500,

There's a dog forum at http://www.petlink.com.au/bb/viewforum.php?f=1 that might be able to help you. Also try newsgroups, but they might not be as local.

Hi Chuckie500
Not sure, but maybe Drs Foster & Smith might be helpful too
And in Oz here, you could try checking out Dr Harry (Harry's Practice) - think he has a website.

more info Chuckie, can be all manner of things.

first things that come to mind are Flea Allergy Dermatitis and an allergy to a garden plant (if he is an outdoor dog)
could also be fungal. could be any number of things.
how bad is it?
going leathery?
bleeding?
cracking?
Where is he itching?

best advice is to get a scraping done at the vet before it gets too bad, but if you want to try a few things first, my first instinct is FAD.

thanks all & one. He gets frontlined ona regular basis & i haven't seen a flea for ages. i asked the vets specifically about mange but they didn't seem to think so. i don't have any of the suspect plants around. mainly scratches under the chin. i just had the carpets professionally cleaned this w/end to see if its a dust/ mite allergy thing. no better yet. he has tried for 2 weeks the antibacterial/fungal shampoo. he hates getting a bath! maybe we should try meditation together?

what diet is he on? might be worth putting him on a low allergy diet while you are ruling things out.

Mange is unlikely, that would show up straight away in a scraping and will often show up in a specific pattern.

Steady on the shampoos, they might just make it worse (or at least less comfy for him as they require wet/dry which makes skin feel odd.)

What did the vet say when you asked about it?
