I guess those aren't the kind you buy to throw at people.

I just checked this. It said the price was $12.99.

However from what I can gather, it seems that Amazon accidentally inserted the product code into the price field, and so the item was first listed as costing $723,440. There's some customer reviews further down the page that reveal this.

One of those customert reviews reads as follows:

I bought these batteries last week for the original list price of $723,440. However, I also received 80 kilos of pure Columbian cocaine and a Ferrari, so I don't feel ripped off.

Thanks J & R Music World!

Wondered what the fuss was about when I clicked on it ... $12.99 isn't bad for 48 AA batteries. However, when originally quoted as being nearly three quarters of a million dollars, some smart Alec said it was because they're nuclear powered and each last around 500,000 years.

And I thought that 6.5 million dollar bra from Victoria's Secret I asked Santa for was expensive!

At this point I'm reminded of the Pepsi Points promotion - the one where they ran a television ad saying "Harrier Jump Jet - 7 million Pepsi Points" and ended up facing a lawsuit when someone actually amassed 7 million Pepsi Points then demanded the jet in return.

Details here.
