How would you prefer to be remembered after your death- famous like Einstein, or infamous like Jack the Ripper? It's probably easier to be infamous, but people won't remember you as nicely.

At this point I'm thinking infamous. If I'm going to go out, I'm going to do it in a way that's talked about for years to come. When you see that newspaper article about the high-speed chase through three states with a burning eighteen wheeler that plunges into a river, you know who it is.

Famous.

Not sure what for.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Famous

And to all the ones who select infamous, please provide me with your location so I know where I should not go in the near future

If I could be infamous without causing lasting damage to any persons or property, then infamous.

Otherwise, famous.

I would like to be famous. It would show character & probably leave a lasting effect that I at least knew what I was tallking about. I'm a philosopher at heart, although that probably means I think too much.

By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Didn't realise I was sharing a forum with so many potential recidivist criminals ...

I picked famous. The sort of thing I'd like to be remembered for is, for example, being the first person to breed a Chaetodon butterfly species successfully in captivity. Now that would be something I could happily put on my CV.

As for being infamous, well, I'd like to ask a question. How many people here would like to exit this world being remembered in the same way as, say, Myra Hindley, Harold Shipman or Ian Huntley? Would you like to exit this world knowing that you were utterly loathed and despised by just about everyone else on the planet? Because, trust me, the people I've just listed fall well and tuly into that category. For those unfamiliar with the details, here's a quick rundown ...

[1] Myra Hindley - died in prison after being sentenced to life for three sadistic murders, including that of a 10 year old girl whose screams of agony she tape recorded so that she could listen to them afterwards with her deranged partner in crime for kicks ...

[2] Harold Shipman - committed suicide in prison after being sentenced to life for murdering 20 or so old women and pocketing money from their wills. Investigations have since concluded that in his role as 'doctor death', Shipman may have killed over 280 people, making him one of the world's worst serial killers ...

[3] Ian Huntley - serving life for murdering two pretty 10 year old girls in his bathroom because they refused his sick advances. Prior to this murder, had a string of sexual offences against under age girls to his name. Recently emerged from hospital after a failed suicide attempt.

Would I want to follow in their footsteps? If I ever do become deranged enough to want to, someone please shoot me, it will be a merciful release ...

Um, I'd rather be infamous, but I'll probably end up being just regular old famous...

I'm trying to get a job at a local genetic research lab where they do all sorts of GMO's including plants and animals...but mostly plants

Like I said, if I could be infamous for random hijinks that don't harm anyone, I'm all for it. But as for the life of crime, I don't know if I could punch someone to save my life.

Thought just occurred to me ... if I *was* the first person to breed a difficult and desirable fish successfully, and I posted the details here first of all ... a degree of fame would soon come my way.
