True Meriadoc lol I'm just disappointed in Pentax for lagging and not _really_ doing a pro level cam *grumbles* Mind you, it would be a cheaper alternative (and I'd feel less guilty for changing brands after about 16 years of using em)

Think it's the whole "I have something in my hand that _can_ do that" thing (the "bigger, faster, stronger" mentality) That and I've been drooling over Nikon digi SLRs for a while now and is kinda "stuck in head" as a "one day I will..." type goal

I'm not sure either, but think some places want "x" amount of res to buy pics (like I'd ever be good enough to sell anything lol)

hmmmm Babel... I hadn't thought about it but I could scam a Canon a little cheaper if I decided to "switch sides" - bro has a friend who has a friend who works in Canon and got our DV cam extra cheap so long as we promised to plug them in films a little (needless to say when we upgrade to the newer model next year we'll be going through them again too ) That's my biggest $$$ right now actually, trying to save my half up for the new DV cam (read: "I haven't really saved any yet and need to knuckle down and start saving before I run out of time" )

(Loving the new sig btw)

To un-hijack this thread a little: I'm sure one could take some amazing pics of precious stones with any of these cams

anyway - why would ya want a 10mp camera anyway? unless you're printing to the size of the side of a bus

anything about 6 or 8 is pointless unless you're going larger than 30x40 prints.

Course, my 6mp stitched panoramas get pretty high up there... but each image is a 6mp file.

LOL Meriadoc, I had considered Canon 'cause the DV cam I use (and the next one) can use EOS lenses too...

What can I say, I'm a child of the 80s and that "Nikon" brand gets me every time is all

If I was more loyal to my 35mm Pentax routes I'd go that avenue, but till they bring something out that breaks the 10MP mark...

LOL any which way you cut it I'm dreaming $$$ wise though for a long time to come

Not to sound too girlie here:

Diamonds fascinate me though (or maybe it's more what they represent, and the lengths man has gone to over the years to yank em from the earth)
Like amethyst (birthstone) too, especially the big, showy pieces for a desktop etc

Tend to agree with Babel though: throw one of these my way and you can keep ya sparkly things

Sapphires and Rubies are the same thing. I named my black molly absidian. And I loved the gems at the Smithsonian, they had the Hope diamond. My girls always gave me rocks instead of flowers when they were growing up. So I learned a little about rocks.

Sapphires or rubies - though I usually have to make do with garnet! I have a sapphire ring and a garnet ring that I wear every day, and a ring in my jewellery box with sapphires and diamonds that used to be my mum's, but the band's broken. I'm planning to get it fixed - one day. Or maybe I'll just drop some hints for the BF to get it fixed for my birthday!

As for semi-precious, moonstone is beautiful, so is amber, and onyx.
