Here's some that caught my eye: Quintana atrizona, a lovely translucent livebearer from the old Innes book that deserves to be far better known; Bryaninops natans, a truly TINY marine goby (max SL just 3 cm) that again would probably make a FAR better choice of fish for the smaller marine aquarium than many that are on sale (yes, I like my dwarf fishes!); Rivulus xiphidius, possibly the most beautiful member of the Rivulus; Aphyolebias peruensis, a truly AWESOME South American Killifish; Aeoliscus strigatus, possibly one of the strangest fishes you'l ever see, and yes, it DOES swim permanently at that bizarre 90 degree head down angle; Novaculichthys taeniourus, the Dragon Wrasse (incidentally it undergoes a HUGE morphological change from this juvenile form before it becomes an adult). It's amazing what gems can be found on there if you go take a peek. Then of course, you can play the "pick a species" game and see if anyone's taken a really good photo of your favourite fishes ... |
