I went down to the MVD today to renew my vehicle. I could not believe what I saw! ]:|

10gal tank with:
4" common goldfish
3.5" common goldfish
2.5" telescope eye goldfish
3" catfish (not sure what kind)
2 big snails
2" fish (not sure what it was but a tropical of some kind) it had 3 black horizontal stripes

To add to all that - the tank's water was a green/orange color and extremely dirty!

I am definitely writing them a letter and sending them some information on how to keep fish and what should and shouldn't be kept together!

I live in a very small town (everyone knows everyone else) and just moved here so wasn't comfortable enough to lecture them on the spot.

Can you believe this? And they had an aquarium book sitting right there on the table next to the tank!

Oh and the MVD office is inside the courthouse. I would think that they would at least show enough courtesy to know how to take care of the poor things properly.

I'm not surprised about the aquarium books tho, to this day, many modern books still say that 1 goldfish per gallon is A-OK In your letter I would recommend that they purchase a copy of "Fancy Goldfish" by Rick Hess and Erik L. Johnson. Wonderful book, and extremely informative and written by the two top goldfish and koi experts in the country.
