I would think that Pitbulls would also work for Red Tailed Sharks. Pitbulls are VERY smart dogs and the reason they are associated with violence is just because they're very protective and they're smart enough to get taught violent behaviors by their masters. My RTS is VERY bright and not only does he recognize people (if I go up to the tank, he comes out and poses since I take lots of pictures, but if any of my friends that are girls go up to the tank, he acts hungry and goes to the top while waiting to be fed), but he also plays with my BGK and enjoys bugging other fish in whatever their nuances are...

So I say...

Pitbulls--->RTS, other "trainable" fish

Chows--->Large Cichlids that start out mean

Chihuahuas--->Bettas (they think they're king and that they can take on any other dog/fish)

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

ps would the Texan Cheerleaders suffice instead of the Dallas Cheerleaders? I might be able to shove them in a box a bit easier

It's all good Heidi No need to pack their pom poms - I've got my own supply

Think there'd be any room for a couple of six packs of Arthur G's finest ?

Oh Bensaf, we love you anyways, and it gave both Leslie and I a great laugh to think about how closely related our fish are to our dogs...because a lot of them were close

It is a good analogy...and you know what I think we should throw the fact that if you have cats in with it somewhere

Thanks so much for the laugh Bensaf...it was much appreciated...heidi

I think Bensaf overdid the Guinness prior to posting somehow

You'd be surprised how often that happens (or maybe you wouldn't)

Now that I think about it (which I probably should have done more of before hand ) I don't have a dog, never have. The whole thing kind of falls apart now ?

Last time there was a dog in my house was back in 1984. That was the year the old fellow finally went to the great kennel in the sky at 19 years of age. Good age for a dog that.

Now, my fish: Panda Corys as fish versions of Jack Russells? Hmm. An individual choice of analogy!

Otocinclus as fish versions of sheepdogs? I'll run with that one, though I've yet to see an Otocinclus change direction when whistled at!

Tetras as 'the family mutt/mongrel'? Funnily enough, the old fellow was a mongrel. Border Collie/Labrador mix with a soupcon of Boxer dog somewhere in the bloodline. What's known here in the UK as a Bitsa Hound - as in 'Bitsa this, bitsa that ...' .

However, since the dog I really want to own someday is a Borzoi, where's the fish analogy for this breed? Discus? Marine Pygoplites diacanthus angel? Which strangely fits, as the marine fish I want to keep most of all someday is a Royal Empress Angel

I think Bensaf overdid the Guinness prior to posting somehow

i have bettas, plattys, guppies, ottos, zebra danios, corys, 2 minnows(regular fat head and rosy red form) and a johney darter.

i hate "dogs" after living with a "human dog" u tend to think this way my "human dog" buddy a bordercollie mix is extremely smart, he can be taught a trick in 5 min and never forget it he is forgiving (abused from first home" and very trusting of me, i put him through difficult and dangerous (in a dogs eyes) tasks but all i have to do is look him in the eyes and say "trust me" and he will of what i ask, i can talk to him like he was a human, and he learns new tricks of his own like this, like he learned on his own, "back up, closer, he barks when he wants in, and we never taught him that" ect but, then there are dogs, i mean dog dogs, the ones that give u stupid looks when u say sit, the ones who cant be potty trained:NO their names are milly and emmit, aka stupid dogs] they chew everything, bark at anything, cant learn a thing, get u all mudd when they jump up on u, STUPID DOGS they drive me crazy, so carzy that i just snap, i grab them (mostly 99% milly) by the collar and just lock them up somwhere so i cant hurt them they know i am dominate, but i wouldent hurt them, i scold them, but i wouldent hurt them, but still, they give mini schnouseres a bad neme, i guess some canadians are like that"milly" well, atleast the stupid breeders, who breed stupid starait into the genes but, yea, i hate dogs, can barley stand them, i need a smart animal, who wont to stupid stuff like chew up memorable items, milly digs through the garbage, the litter box, u name it she ate it sort of "thing"

You know the old adage of dogs looking like their owners? Like most of these things it's bit of a generalization with a bit of truth behind it. Lets face it Poodles and little yappy lap dogs are usually owned by certain types of people and pit bulls would be owned by completely different types.

Got me to think of fishy equivalents (ok I was very bored today!) I came up with this list:

Poodles, lap dogs = Bettas, Guppies, any kind of long finned or albino variety. Painted fish (yuk !).

Pit Bulls = Big fierce Cichlids. Big predatory eels, Piranhas.

Labradors, Collies = Oscars.

Bulldogs = Plecos (they both have ugly faces)

The family mutt, mongrel = Tetras, Mollies, Platies, Barbs,

Jack Russells = Cories

Sheepdogs, Huskies any kind of "work" dog = Ottos, SAE's.

The pedigree show dog = Altums, Apistos, Rainbows

So taking the old dog owner saying to our hobby do you think that your preference in fish is a reflection of your personality in the same way that your choice of dog may be? If so which of the above groups do you fall into?

Any more you can add to the list above?

my fish include( not the familys)
blue gouramis, danios, corys,a bn,a goldy, and dojos, and bettas.
my dogs are a pit, and a pit/lab mix, and a basenji.
I like big goofy playful cuddly dogs- and nothing fits that better than a pit if raised in a loving home. kinda like a 3yr old on a sugar rush goofy My lil basenji is the boss at a whopping 20 pounds, and does as she wants, when she wants.
Do they fit my personality- in a way, Im independant,
( the gouramis and basenji) playful and goofy- the pits, cories, danios, dojos-and im known to bring home every stray I find- rabbits, fish, birds, cats, dogs.......

I want a mastiff but since I’m not allowed (apartment rule) to have a dog over 30 pounds I’m electing for the next best thing. A Boston Bull Terrier. But I in no way resemble ugly scrunched up droopy faced dogs.

My taste for fish is pretty broad. For my community tanks I prefer the SA persuasion I have 2 tanks pretty much dedicated to them and the loaches would be the only variation. Face it loaches are cool.

But my real passion is for oddballs. My current list is Whiptail Cat, BGK, Fresh Water Stone Fish, Had a Dragon Goby (the stone ate him). Future fish I hope to get would be a Peruvian Monster Fish, Some more rare or at least interesting plecs like the Royal, (going salt on ya here) Angler fish, Scorpion Fish, a dwarf zebra Lion Fish (not that lions are rare but this one is somewhat hard to come by locally), and finally a Fumanchu Lion.

What does this say about me. Well as most of you know. I’m odd

Jamie on the other hand does fit into Bensaf’s description of a person with lapdogs. She has an Maltese who begs her to pick him up. What is her fish of fancy? The Guppy. But she is also into BN plecs but I swear she does not have a beard!]

I've had 2 Great Danes and a lab/white shepherd (gave up a dane and the mix in the "divorce" ) all of which are very large ferocious looking lap dogs. As far as fish, I would love to keep large CA cichlids, I don't at this time because of space. I guess my personality is bigger = more to love

The majority of my fish are bettas, but I'm in NO way a poodle or lap dog type person. I know they're pretty fish, but they're also AGGRESSIVE, and not in that yippy way.

Yes they are. IMO anyhow.

I'm more of the type to have a german shepherd or bigger dog like that. *shrugs*

I agree with Shinigami, stingrays like those ones they have in the tanks at large aquariums are fun to pet and actually enjoy it themselves, so they should be labs or golden retrievers (my dog's a golden). So with that being said, my fish are african cichlids...not very much like my dog and my personalities at all.
