All Floridians better stock up on battery operated air pumps/stones now if its not too late, power could go out for days, its raining so much here in NY it feels like were in a hurricane! and I hope you're safe too

Try to slow it down a bit before it gets to NC, please.

Seriously though, be safe people!

Well, sorry Jake, i tried, but the dang thing wussed out and went quite a bit south of me... I am actually just wanting to make sure CM is alright, it hit real close to him, but he should be through the worst of it by now.

I am still here and very well alive and okay! Actually the hurricane only particially touched the east side of my county, which is very forunate, since it was supposed to hit land in the bay in my back yard! I hope everyone south of me and north eastern is okay! There are two more tropical depressions in the Carribean right now that will be here next weekend... hopefully there will not be a repeat of this weekend. The county south of me had millions of dollars worth of damage, as well as the county to the east of me. One of the shelters, the roof flew off and the east wall caved in, forunately no one was hurt. I have lived in florida for over 12 years and nothing has happened in tampa bay for over 80 years. Although I live near the water, I am over 30 feet above sea level. Hopefully we will be as fortunate in the future.

David

P.S. Thanks tucker for caring... It means alot!

Jake -- where are you in NC? I'm amazed at how wonderfully a lot of Floridians have managed to get through Charley, but here in NC, everyone is freaking out. I have an event planned at my house this morning, and it seems everyone wants to cancel now

Laurinburg, NC...winds supossed to get up to 40-75 mph today they're saying. My county/city on flash flood/high wind/tornado alert and stuff. Time to plug in the air pump backups I reckon.

Yeah, I know what you mean about NC, Sunflwrgrl. Yesterday morning I went and bought some distilled water for aquarium use (not for the tank's water, just for aquarium-related applications), and the shelf was full. Bought some hamburger buns for hamburgers tonight and the shelf was full. I went back last night to get an extention cord and the water shelf was empty, the bread shelf was empty, and I didn't look but I'm sure there was no milk, propane bottles, batteries, or anything else of that nature. 2" of snow will clear the shelves of a super walmart around here, so it's not too suprising.

edit- Just saw some pictures of PUNTA GORDA, Fla. We have any members from there? I hope not, it looked devastated.

Punta Gorda and Port Charolette are just south of me. Scary, isn't it?

Suffolk VA for me... though I used to live near Tampa, in Brandon, FL. Where I'm at now, were supposed to get 4 to 6 inches of rain, but Charley will be a tropical storm by the time it gets here.

I'm not sure where Laurinburg is, but I've heard of it. I'm in Henderson, an hour to an hour and a half North from Raleigh (depending upon where in Raleigh). All I got was rain, thank goodness, and happily two people showed up for my plant club meeting. I was hoping for more, but was glad some came. I had planned on this for so long. I live pretty far from everyone, so it was nice of them to take the drive in this "weather" (although from the satellite radar pictures I kept looking at, I didn't think it was coming this way). There was a few minutes of breeziness, but so far, winds really have been still.

Yep about the store shelves! It's crazy. Don't even try to go to a store the night before severe weather because the lines will be an hour or more! However, I can't blame em for this time because the weather reporters were trying to scare everyone half to death out here. Floridians had a right to be nervous, but we were so far from the 'action.'

Well, our 45-70 mph or whatever winds were like 6 mph. It rained for a few hours, heard some thunder a couple times... and then it was gone. I still have a feeling that the dang thing will realize it missed me and make a U turn, heh.

Just for future reference...
WalMart sales a great battery powered air pump with stone and tubing for 5.95 (another is 14.95 they look the same to me.) It operates off of 2 D batteries and lasts for over 48 hours...the trick is it's in the sporting goods section among the fishing stuff...Hope everyone survived okay...Heidi

I bought one of those battery powered air pumps last year for Isabel. We lost power for a week and the air pump saved my fish!

I use the Penn Plax at Thatfishplace.com which plugs in the wall and will go on when the power goes off. Yes, it's one more ugly thing in my tank but it gives me peace of mind -- and it is only about $10. and also uses 2 D batteries.
