Gene for Cichlid egg-spot found | |
Shinigami Ichthyophile Catfish/Oddball Fan Posts: 9962 Kudos: 2915 Registered: 22-Feb-2001 | Throwing an interesting current event your way. Apparently they found the gene related to the egg spots found on the fins of the haplochromine mouthbrooders. I thought it was interesting, anyway. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/11/071115083711.htm http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/item.php?news=1457 -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

I'm sure they will, but then all of the genetically-modified fish will escape into the environment and they will kill everything because they have extra DNA and the DNA will be floating in the water and other animals will pick it up and when we eat those animals we'll get the DNA too and it will change us and make our bums spotted! I like to think that was a pretty good caricature. |

One of my vegan friends actually thought that's how it worked... Except it was about spraying mutated genes on crops from aircraft and the mutated genes getting washed into the natural environment and mutating things they touch.
