Well, I love the fish, I love to read, I love to scrapbook, I also love to do geneology...

So I was wondering is there anyone else out there who does geneology?

I realize this is usually considered a hobby of those who are older/retired, but I've also gotten so I like it myself...

If there are others out here who does geneology and any of our information link up maybe we can trade information....Here's hoping...

This is only possible if one's ancestors stayed put in the one country I guess or if your language is the same for where your family settled (ie you are in Australia/USA and your family is from Scotland then you can study the recores.)

My ancestors all come from countries that I wouldn't be able to read the records anyway. Often think I would like to do it but would have to enlist the assistance of someone else as all my family is from Europe and I couldn't read the records.

Hope you find lots of interesting things about your ancestors and learn a bit about what makes you *YOU*. Be cool to find an ancestor with a job that is the same as something you like to do too.

Emma, over a year ago we were talking about geneology. I mentioned I was trying to find the graves of my grandparents in England. I am in Canada and my mother was a warbride during the second world war. Tiny_Clanger (hugs her tight) found my grandfather's grave for me. I had nothing to go on but with Tiny's info I was able to find out a lot more.

Light Brite I'm so happy for you!!! I knew we had tried this before, but knew it had been quite some time...I did manage to find a site online with tons of free information...And as luck would have it, I was able to find a lot on one of the branches of my family...but, I thought I might bring it up again, and see if any of the newer members might join in...here is the site I found during Thanksgiving...it was quite useful to me, hopefully you'll be able to use it also...

Gary to those who say mind your own business, tell them that you are...it is your family, you do have the right to know about them...

Wish-Ga, now with all the technology things are online, and sometimes even if your family is from oter countries you can still find lots of information in English, or whatever language you speak, it's just a matter of being patient....sometimes you can find stuff just around the corner. (I found 2 cousins that live in the area...2nd and 3rd cousins, but they knew about my family line and were able to contribute lots of information I otherwise wouldn't have been able to get...My dad was of the same theory, why waste your time, it's none of your business, and Aunt Wilma has already done all of it...when asking if I could see a copy, he'd just walk off Now he's passed on, and who knows where any of the stuff went...especially since the "older generation" has pretty much passed on also.)

Well, good luck to all... who wish to venture down this amazing and aggravating puzzle of life...

The names in my current search are:
Lane Laird Stewart Gant
Young And others I can't think of off the top of my head, go figure...thanks, Heidi

I do know quite a lot about my family due to my Oma's and my strong connection. For a school assignment she once hand wrote a big family tree and underlined all of the names in red of the people who lost their life in the holocaust. Very moving and has stayed with me.

I know lots of stories about her father and mother (Hungarian & Czechoslovakian) and her life with my opa in Vienna and have lots of documents.

I also have lots from my dad's side (Italian). So I am very lucky.

Family history is very important. Good luck tracking yours.

btw I wasn't saying "why bother" because of the language problem I am just saying it is a factor for some of us. I am lucky to know lots about my family history. But you can bet that if I knew very little I would be searching just like you. Good luck with your search.

Genealogy is fun... I have a book from my paternal granfather's hometown in Romania that shows our family going back to like... 1500's. Sad thing is that other than that branch of the family, I know very little about my genealogy.

Here's a fun genealogical fact, though... my sister and I are double first cousins with our two cousins... My mom's sister married my dad's brother.

I had to do a family tree for one of my introductary level anthropology courses in university. It was quite fun and very difficult- we have to trace back at least 5 generations. I did only my moms side of the family because it is so huge. Her ancestors come from Iceland originally, and from the Norse Lands- and I can directly trace Ancestry to Erik the Blue. Pretty neat.
On the other side I have ancestry from england, scottland, ireland, scandinavia, and sweden.

I wouldn't really call it a hobby of mine, though it is interesting.

I was born and raise Mormon until I was about 12 (I'm no longer religious at all).
As a lot of people know, Mormons are well known for their large genology database. So it was very neat to map out a great deal of my family tree, I found out that I'm related to a King Bruce *Dutch*.

Oh Geneology is lots of fun! I started working on mine about two years ago. I have some pretty interesting ancestors it seems, a witch who was hung, Henry Clay, two presidents William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison, the actor Charles Coburn! And what did I get out of it? Now I know where my big ears come from... Giggles!
