OH forgot to say:
I bet that setup cost that fellow well in excess of 20,000 dollars. I know aquarium stores in Vancouver are VERY expensive. I have looked.

Heh, I wish we had hardwood here!

You do...I seem to remember quite a few nice, big chestnut and maple trees in my old Vancouver West-end neighbourhood.....surely no-one would miss one or two...

LOL
Last time I looked I think Hemlock, Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Pine, and Fir makes up the bulk of the BC forests.
Heh, I wish we had hardwood here!
Mind you, Cedar and Pine both make for nice furniture as well!
My Aquarium hood is made of laminated pine and it looks nice.
Most wood aquarium stands sold here are made of pine anyway.
And even though wood is our cash crop, its still darned expensive as hell!

Yeah....the sprawling mahogany and walnut forests of BC. Have you priced furniture-quality hardwood lately?

unless he used platnum screws that stand aint worth 8000 i could build it outta cherry or mahogony for 1000
red cedar or walnut even it shouldnt cost anywhere near that
lumber is the cash crop of bc other then weed so the wood mite b even cheaper there
its a nice stand but very inpractical

Well, for my 48 inch light with 2 bulbs at 135watts I paid almost 250 dollars. I know that in my area a cf fixture long enough for a 300g tank is 700+ dollars. Then add tax @ 14.5%, Thats around 1500 dollars. And thats still not even adequate light. I was speaking from where I live. It would probably cost me 25,000 or more to set up that particular setup. So if the reserve is 12,000, then I would still be saving myself 10,000 dollars, am I right?
As for renting a truck, that only costs 200 bucks, so not so much a hassle. Besides, that tank is already setup- marine tanks costs many thousands to set up and maintain, someone like me , if I had that kind of money, would probably go for an existing setup, to save money.

Pete, you came up with a total of $16,900 and then say you would save $10,000 on this tank? You mathimatics are wrong. The reserve price on that set up is probably the same price as the "buy it now" price, which is $15,000. So, you would save yourself just under $2,000. Which for that setup, I would rather spend that little extra for a complete newly setup.

The thing I want to know, is why you would spend $1500 for lighting? Those are not reef tanks, so you wold not need anywhere near enough lighting to cost that much. More likely only need a couple hundred dollars worth of lighting, and more likely the lighting that came with the tank will be sufficient.

As for the tanks, well personally, I can get them for under $2,000 each. But that is just my price.

Fish aside, at under $10,000, it is probably a pretty good deal (custom stands are frighteningly pricey)....but considering the considerable work and headache to dismantle and move it, I could not see myself paying over $4500, and that only if I lived in Vancouver.

I cant believe you guys! Where in the h*** do you people shop?? A setup like that, I bet I could tell you how much it would cost me here:
Custom Stand to have Built : Probably in the nature of $8000.00 I asked for a qoute on my 5 foot stand to be built they wanted 1500.
Tanks: 2x 300g= 1 300g tank here drilled for saltwater =$2950.99 = almost $6000.00
Fish: $500
Filters : $900
Lighting: $1500
Total: 16,900 not including extra accessorys and additional costs such as substrate live rock etc.
I think that is a great deal, and If I had room and a trock to go get it, I would do it easily. Save yourself over 10,000 dollars.

If I was close enough to dismantle and pick it up myself, I could see going about $4K tops...taking it down, packing it out and moving it even just across town would be expensive (probably need to rent a 3 ton cube van for the day) and a major headache.

To begin with, it's $15,000 CANADIAN dollars which equals...$12,144.77 US dollars, so I just saved almost three grand over ya'll...

As for the tank(s), it's a lot of money to pay for a stand. The stand's the only thing that really costs money there. Other than that, it's just two 300 gallon fishtanks with their own entire systems set up...maybe if they were connected in some fashion, then the customerization would be more complete, but so far, it's just a pair of tanks on a cool stand...

As for the guppies, you would only need two...

I want it but for that cost, No way...and I have the same problem as Steph my landlady would probably be quite ticked if I started knocking walls out of my apartment, and then the neighbors too...she knows i'm crazy, and lets me get away with most anything (heck I pay rent and am dependable) but I really think she'd be upset with me knocking the wall out between the 2 living rooms:%) Heidi

EDIT: by the way how many guppies could I have in it, if it was transfered to a freshwater?

Way too high priced. You are paying mostly for the custom stand, and not the tanks. $15,000 IMO, is just too much for those two tanks. Even with a complete system underneath the tank. It is just not worth it, because the copmlete setup has to be taken down, so you will have to re-start your cycle and everything. The seller should list pics of the filter system under the tank as well, and descibe which kind it is. And, even if the fish are included, those I see in the tank only equal about less than $1,000. And I would more closely guess them at just over $500.

Plus, there is even an undetermined cost for taking down the setup? lol. for that price they should take it down.

Oh well, just my oppinion.

I could have that if I blew out the wall from my living room into my bedroom and then went the other way into the next apartment. I doubt the landlord and other tenant would go for that though. Cool set up though
