Foremrly of the Natural History Museum, London. In 1977 he was responsible for discovering that the phylogeny of the Cichlidae, as ba I'm sure you can find some way of working this into an essay so that the Natural History Museum gets decent billing first, then you can drop in Dr Greenwood toward the end and finish with a flourish. By the way, this is one of the Cichlids that he described as new species during his lifetime ... colourful, isn't it? |

caled Big Fish Posts: 406 Kudos: 44 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Apr-2003 | WOW. I really want one of those cichlids! It looks like it has been attacked by a grafitti artist. I wonder if theyve been captive bred yet? I still don't like the idea of taking fish from their natural habitats. OK, just read that article completely, and looks like a few captive bred specimens are knocking around, has anyone in the UK ever seen one of these in a LFS? infact, has anyone in the WORLD ever seen these? It's such a shame what has/is happening to Lake Victoria. These wonderful creatures were very nearly lost without us even knowing they even existed. |

And Cali. has a picture of another hardy beautiful fish that he showed me once that was happy in really hard water. Some kind of jewel fish maybe? Do you remember what I'm talking about Cali.? |

The one with the magenta bellies and purple sides covered in spangles? Mind you, I think you'd go a LONG way to beat that Xystichromis in the colour stakes ... that fish is positively psychedelic by freshwater standards! |

fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | I really don't remember Cali.. We were in chat talking about Rams I think & breeding them in hard water & you came up with a pic of a really pretty fish you wish you could find in your area. You said it lived in really hard water. But for some reason I'm thinking of the word jewel? But you're right! This new fish you found is probably only comparable to the little Endlers I've been looking at, only a lot larger! But Rams are beautiful too! I need a bigger house, & more money! Don't we all! I didn't understand the pricing though on the site you gave crazyred. I've never bought online. Two people were selling? One wanted $7. & the other wanted $12? Is that each or what? |

Looks to me like the $7.00 was for onefish and the $12 was for a trio with 1 m and 2 female. That would be the better deal. Not sure if they would ship to us from Canada, but if I ever get another tank set-up, I intend to ask. "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder." |

I seriously considered bidding on the Haps, but I don't have any place to put them at the moment. More pics of Lake Victoria species. http://www.african-cichlid.com/Lake_Victoria.htm ~ Mae West |

I found a cichlid breeder that has something very similar and I am going to try and get some from them. I'll post some pics when I do. If I get fry, I'll let you know if you are interested. Aaron, the article that Cali posted should give you a pretty good start for their care. ~ Mae West |
