Happy Thanksgiving to you too! And many more pies!

PS - make sure you bake your pecan pies thoroughly so they aren't runny like mine was. (Had Thanksgiving today myself) Just a friendly tip.

Thanks superlion. I don't bake pies, but we go to a relatives house & she bakes plenty! I never did like pecan pies & I'm trying to give up sweets altogether. I just find them too addictive............. the more I have the more I want.

"The first official Thanksgiving was held in the Virginia Colony on December 4, 1619 near the current site of Berkeley Plantation, where celebrations are still held each year in November.

The Pilgrims were particularly thankful to Squanto, the Indian who taught them how to catch eel, grow corn and who served as an interpreter for them (Squanto had learned English on a previous trip to Europe). Without Squanto's help the Pilgrims might not have survived in the new world. The Pilgrims set apart a day to celebrate at Plymouth immediately after their first harvest, in 1621. At the time, this was not regarded as a Thanksgiving observance; harvest festivals were existing parts of English and Wampanoag tradition alike." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving

Yes............it is a time to say what we are thankful for, along with a dinner of turkey & dressing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin & pecan pies & whatever other side dishes each family is used to having as their family tradition.

Yay, fish patty!! Yes, it's an American holiday where we celebrate the Pilgrims making through a very difficult time when they came to America. They finally harvested some crops and managed to kill some birds (wild turkey being one of them) and they invited the Indians that helped to sit down to a giant feast that allegedly lasted for three days.

Thank gawd ours only lasts one day...I don't think my waistline could take a 3 day feast feast!

Here is the perspective of a couple international students we had at our Thanksgiving:

On behalf of me & my room-mate, I want to say a big 'thanks' for cooking it up this thanksgiving dinner... cooking of that kind, that captures the tradition & american culture of thanksgiving... - well to wrap it up in one (very american) word - *AWESOME*

Well you dont really hear us use that word a lot, but its as close as we can get to express our gratitude. Tonight we discovered that over and above thanksgiving just being a 5-day break, it's also a celebration of family and friendship.

Once again, thanks again for the dinner, it was sensational and defn. a
worthwhile break away from our normal dinner menu.

Hope everyone remembered to place a slice of apple pie under their pillow for the pie fairy to bring you another whole pie on black friday!

Master Adam and I are recovering from our multiple thanksgiving meals. We had one Thanksgiving meal (lunch) here at my mothers, then went down to my step-dads oldest sisters house for pie and more dinner.

Hope everyone remembered what's important, giving thanks to the FBI!

Yep! Gotta love it! I was not true to my diet. Who actually expected me to be anyways? Still eating leftovers today.

Wha'???? Master Alex have you not garnered a potted history from sitcoms like I have. I know all about that festival/holiday from Brady Bunch reruns & Friends episodes (football in the indoor cheap set park) and just about every other tv show set in America. Sabrina and Sam probably zapped themselves back for the real-time experience.
