I remember well his tribulations with his cat and the bathtub - you can ask him 'bout that. It is worth it for a laugh... ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

BluePhoenix Fish Addict Posts: 843 Registered: 23-Jan-2003 | Hi again, There's a reasonable amount of care. It's definitely not a pet for everyone, and needs real research before getting one (but what pet doesn't?). Their staple diet is a high protein/low fat cat food, and then you feed them treats of mealworms, crickets, fruit, baby foods, boiled egg, etc. They need a warm room: above 72F, otherwise there is a risk of hibernation which apparently might kill them. The vet bills are more expensive than some others; because hedgies are 'exotics' and vets bills as such. Then there's the fact that it's a nocturnal animal, so playing with it in the middle of the day isn't really possible. I've been working on taming her, so I've taken her out 1-2hrs each evening (usually between 8-12). Yes, she's pooped on me quite a bit, but while she's in her cage she generally goes while on the wheel (which means a daily clean ). She also needs a bit of foot bath often enough because she doesn't stop while doing her business, so her feet get dirty. It's worth it though because I know she's having fun! Two more pictures: wet nose relaxing |
