i've called twice, both times because i was in an accident (not my fault either time). the first time was great, the squad was dispatched within minutes and got us all squared away with an accident report and tow trucks, and even checked to make sure we didn't also need an ambulance.

2nd time, i call and say "i was in a car accident"

and the lady says something like "well, you'll have to come in and fill out a report"

"my car is totaled, i can't go anywhere. i need someone to help me out"

"well we can't send someone to give you a ride, you'll have to come in as soon as you can"

"WHAT?? ]:| I DON'T NEED A RIDE, I NEED A SQUAD CAR TO COME TO THE ACCIDENT SCENE! ]:|"

"i'm sorry but we can't give you a ride in a squad car, even if it's an emergency"

"!%@#$ you lady" <click>

i tried to call and file a complaint, but they pretty much said there was no way i could win on a complaint because i would have to deal with the police union, would have to know the name of the officer/dispatcher i talked to, would have to take at least a couple days to file the paperwork correctly etc etc. so i told them i'm glad nobody was seriously hurt since they have such incompetent people working their 911 center. ]

I voted no, but probably should have...

I had been having trouble with my asthma and it was getting steadily worse all day. I went to bed that night and got up the next morning and went to work. (fast food early in the morning) My breathing was soo bad that I could barely move around. My boss was very nervous about it. The captain of the ambulance squad was eating there and she called him back to look at me. He was very concerned and skipped the whole 911 deal. He radioed for the ambulance and they showed up shortly and gave me a ride to the hospital.

It was a very scary experience. At the hospital they tried somewhere between 5 and 10 different meds on me before I responded to something. Needless to say, I spent the night.

I have called 911 twice and *55 (The State Patrol Hotline) twice. Every single time the dispatcher was an idiot. I hope that you do a much better job than these people, and if someone calls you and says that a car has just passed them at over 100 miles per hour, DO NOT ask them to catch up with the car and get their license plate number!

I don't really call for a hangnail.....But due to the psychos that I always end up getting to know, I have had to call 911 enough that a few of the ladies recognize my voice.

Yeah!
When I was in college, a guy broke into my dorm and then tried getting into my room. (he had things on his mind that he wasn't going to get) finally he left my door for a minute and I managed to get to the lobby and called 911. The operator stayed on the line with me till the police and campus security got there. Of course the guy followed me to the lobby and stood there watching me and the operator keept me from freaking out too much. They finally got him outside and it took 4 cops and pepper spray to get him down.
fast forward 15 years I'm training to be on the other end of 911. (EMS)

Yes, on different occassions.

The most recent was when there was a really bad accident in town, and wasn't sure if they had been called or not...

Next I used to do security at the 911 center in Houston off of North Shepherd, so of course I called, but it wasn't 911 it was 713-88x-xxxx

Then in Presidio I always called 911, well kind of a good friend of mine in town was with EMS, does that count? At one point I was over at Leslie's and my dog, Stanley had a seizure, well I ran next door to the Lead EMS person in town, and he called the other lady on call, so I ended up with the ambulance coming to check out my dog, and yes, they knew it was my dog before they came over

Finally the first time I called 911, I was living in Alpine (another small West Texas town) and my husband (ex now) somehow or another set the car on fireand woke me up screaming about it...but somehow in my medicated/sleeping presence all I could dial was 837-911 and couldn't figure out why the call wouldn't go through

Tim, I'm more than sure you do a great job, on the only real time I called 911 they were quite friendly and helpful, though I know I was put on hold and transfered (all of our original calls go to downtown houston, where they are transfered to the correct dispatch center in the area) they were quite helpful...Heidi

I call it often, but I call it to test lines and caller I.D. and such for phone systems I am working on.

No I do not schedule my test calls. I just let the operator know who I am who I represent and the purpose of my call.

They have always been kind and courteous to me, and some have even been thankful for what I am doing.

I did call it once by mistake. My cell phone was in my tool bag and it got bounced around a bit that day. Just so happens the the right numbers were dialed and the send button was pushed..Go figure on the chances of this happening.

I simply told the operator what had happened and apologized.

FYI, people if you ever call it by mistake, do NOT hang up! They send a cop out to the address that the number you called from is linked to. They have to investigate hang ups. Someone could actually be in trouble.

I can not count how many times I have had to run a CHI (call history interrogation) to find out for the police who within my system called 911.

I have, a few years ago when some Canadians set fire to the land below our house. Luckly we got the fire out before the fire trucks arrived, because they wouldn't even be able to fit down our driveway.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Unfortunately I have had to use it on more than one occassion..

One time my Grandma wouldn't wake up...the other times, well...let's just say it was police related. :#( And the last time was because I had a reoccuring peeping Tom every morning after I got out of the shower

The customer service each time was very good, and very comforting. I have no complaints and I think in each and every occassion, they could not have done a better job than they already did.

I think it is great that you are one of those folks on the other end of the line, I am positive that you will do an awesome job!
