And then, I bought him a girlfriend, Mittens. I knwo their sexes, so I know this isnt a male-versus-male problem. Since I got her, Split has refused to eat. I can shove the worms/crickets/whatever right in front of his face, and he'll turn his head away. He hasn't grown out of his juvenile bands for almost a year now, and he's getting skinny and sleeping all the time. They seem to get along famously-- they cuddle and sleep together and look super cute... What do you think? Is this an adjustment issue, or is he sick? He hasn't eaten since Christmas break ![]() |

What kind of substrate do you have them on? do you have a place to house them seperately? Sometimes putting it back the way it was could help. What are you feeding? If nothing else, get some Jump Start, it's a concentrated high caloric supplement that they can basically live off. |

I use a sand that supposedly doesn't get compacted in them, but I've read such bad stuff about sand lately that I'm thinking of just using paper towels. I feed them meal worms and occassional crickets dusted in calcium powder, but I'll check on that jump start stuff... unfortunately, the sick one isn't eating, so I don't know if that will help. They were housed together, but right now, I have the female in a different house, hoping the sick one might eat now. |

Temperature is very important to herps because they're ectothermic... so it's just as important as knowing the temperature in your aquarium, for example. They may use the same heat lamps, but your results may be different because the size and type of enclosure, and the things in it vary. ><> |

We've got Leopard geckos and our male stopped eating so we switched to paper towels after doing some reading. He finally started eating again but he crapped orange for a month. We used this orange calcium sand that the pet store guy said was fine for them. Now we use coconut shreds instead of paper towels. Put the heat lamp on one side of the tank so they can find a temp they like. Good luck, Mike |

Paper towel substrate, 14-hour photoperiods, basking area of 82ºF, cool end of 74ºF, dusted, gut-loaded crickets for food. Twice daily soaks in shallow, lukewarm water for 20 minutes each. Find a herp vet and have him checked for impaction, obstruction, and parasites. |

Infact many of the approved substrates out there can. Right now I'm using Eco Earth (Just like a soil substrate) for my Crested Gecko, but I'll probably switch to paper towels when it's all gone. Go to a local Reptile vet, see what they say, as far as the suppliments go, you can syring feed him, or put dabs of it on his nose and let him lick it off. |
