Ok, cool guys! Thanks heaps!

I think I've got everything under control right now.
The only thing I'm not sure of is, is it ok if i get my mum to drive us if i can't arrange a limo or anything else (in a silver ford fairmont)

she's met my mum before, so i guess it won't be much of a problem, and mum knows about the formal anyway

from wear im from the ride is almost as important as the dress

limos mite b expensive so if u dont have a sweet ride maybe borrow one
for me its a 69 363 chevelle SS wit a 454 big block motor swap
super sweet ride but something a lil more not so loud n fast may b lil more appropriate

i would've gotten flowers on the corsage to match the color of her dress, but she refused to tell me what colors were on her dress till i saw it, so try to find out ahead of time if she'll let you all i knew was that it was strapless, and is does a pin on corsage really work with a strapless dress???

be very simple but very neat.. dress in a nice suit with a really good tie!! a tie can change the whole appearence!!
get together with a group of mate and order some limmos(there not expensive and split cost with friends).. they are so fun.. just drink some shampain(dont let the driver know your under 18).. on my formal we had 8 limmos .. be very gentleman like to your partner.. give her your jacket if she is cold.. hold her hand.. dance with her!!.. give her some nice flowers.. make sure u seat her before urself!! use these lil simple things and have a great time..

tell us how u go

Hmm, I dont like corsages, they tend to get in the way (and I'm a girl who's been to a few formal nights in her life ) Myself, I would go for a flower to put in her hair in a colour which complements the dress. be sure and get flowers she likes the smell of.

Oh, and if you dont already know, get an older man to show you the proper way of escorting a woman. How to offer her your arm, etc. Nothing makes a girl feel more special on a formal ngiht, and bear in mind her shoes will probably be killing her!

about the limo, i really don't know about it
it all seem too much, and both me and my date are really not over the top person
what about just get my mom to drive us since i don't have a license yet
i'll try to work things out with my mates though, if we can put together a limo that will be great
i'm still trying to figure out her personality, she's really quiet and shy, but can be active at some times

the dance will be good (i hope)
not that i can dance or anything, but she's a ballerina and does jazz as well
as we are together every friday, i'll get her to teach me before the actual dance

my parents are really excited about the formal
like buying me a suit and stuff etc etc
my date has been to my house a few times, and my parents really like her

Corsages aren't really done here in Oz, it's more an American prom thing from what I know.

But flowers, definitely. I wouldn't go for roses either if I were you - kind of says that you have no imagination. That is, unless she really loves roses (kind of hard to find out unless you ask her, and that spoils the surprise!)

Suit and blue shirt sounds good to me. But as others have asked, do you know what colour she is wearing? Blue does compliment most colours though, especially a dark blue, so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

All this formal talk is making me a bit nostalgic. I'd do things differently if I had my time over. I wouldn't wear a white dress, for a start - too bridal! And my hair was bleached blonde, piled up in weird poufy curls all over my head - ick. And, I would go ahead and ask the guy I wanted to go with before another girl did. I think we both wanted to go together - we were on a date a few months before and he asked me what colour I was planning to wear - but neither could get up the nerve, since we were both doing that oh-so-cool 'I don't really like you that much, we're just friends' thing . As soon as we got to the formal, we looked for each other before anyone else. Oh well, it was probably a good thing, in hindsight he was a bit of an idiot , but at 16 it was true love!

All the more reason to get her one! She'll be the only girl with a corsage and feel extra-special

Yeah, get your mum to drive you.

I mean, if you don't have your license and you can't get a limo, then a parent driving you is absolutely fine! There are plenty of other ways of making her feel special without worrying about the car.

But DO make sure the car is clean (inside and out) and smells nice. And do open the door for her! And don't let any younger siblings come along for the ride! This is a grown-up thing for you and her, not sticky-fingered kids!

Anyway, if your parents are paying for all that stuff, the least you can do is wash and vacuum the car for them. And they'll be absolutely chuffed.

And when you're done come over and clean my car will you?

J, you should be able to tee up with her friends to all go in the one limo Failing that, what about a harley trike? maybe no, it might muss up her hair.
A horse and sulky? there will be someone near you that might want to do it...

I found some of my photos, i'll scan them in later for your perusal Might give you an idea of what to expect.

Everything is going great so far.
We end up deciding on going in a Limo with another couple.
Her dress has already been prepared for her, and today I went out to buy a suit. Boy, am I excited. My first ever suit and formal.

I'm going to wear a black/blue suit with purple/red tie.
Still deciding on the shirt, tried white shirt, looks alright.

Hope it's going to be a wonderful night.

Depending on how dark the tie, is I'd either go with a red shirt or a black shirt (darker tie=lighter shirt)...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Bring a dozen roses when you pick her up.

hmm, depends. I prefer carnations, i can put one in my hair and the rest in water before we go so I have a momento of a fantastic night. Find out what her favvy flower is, might be she prefers something a little quirky (I do) and will be far more pleased by her favourite flower than by roses, which are a bit generic!

Get a tux with tails. There is no such thing as over the top. Get a tophat too if possible.

Ask her about herself.

Compliment her.

Open doors for her.

Smile.

Relax.

Be yourself.

Bring a dozen roses when you pick her up.

Make that first kiss a light brush on the lips. If you feel as if you died right then, you'd die happy, go for the second.

Have fun, Mike
