My dad had fish tanks all around the house when I was a baby. So, I kinda followed in his footsteps...

I always talked about getting a tank for work and one b'day my friend at work got one for me!

(I have upgraded work setup a few times since and had a few tanks at home too.)

I had goldfish since I was about 5. About 2 years ago I looked into some info about them, like what live foods they'd like, and wow, turns out they got waaaayyyy to big. Got rid of them, and my gf liked the looks of some tropical fish so I got em, and now I'm addicted.

I was pretty much raised around fish. Personally, I think it was the obligatory betta in a bowl that got me started.

I've got puppies, Shannen, p9 of them.

My Father in Law got tired of his tank and gave it to us. Things snowballed from there. I ended up with 14 tanks. I decided I must be nuts and cut back to 4. Life is much less hectic now.

Mike

ps. I did keep fish as a kid.

LOL Mike, I will settle for nothing less than a Boston Bull.

I want a dog that can sit in my lap but yet isn't a rag doll with fur.

When I moved up from junior school to grammar school, the biology lab had all these wonderful pictures of tropical fish on the walls. There was a Bleeding Heart Tetra, a Hi-Fin Lyretail Swordtil, a Glowlight Tetra and a Neon Tetra among the pictures. I fell in love with tropical fish on that first day I saw those pictures. Took me something like 3 years to gather the money together for my aquarium doing paper rounds etc., and along the way I made a few mistakes, but nothing catastrophic. However, for one catastrophe that did befall me, go to this thread.

Later, I acquired 10 Angelfishes (Scalares), and had the wonderful experience of watching them spawn. Then came a hiatus during my university career, because the university halls of residence authorities banned pet keeping because idiots had abused the privilege in the past by letting venomous snakes and other less than delightful critters loose in the corridors (that's university students for you the world over!). Then there was a brief spell with some Goldfish in a coldwater setup, but sadly all too brief, thankls to my moving to London to find work, only for the company to be taken over 2 weeks after I arrived.

Then there was a gap while I nursed my mother through Alzheimer's. Once she died, I set up the aquarium that is now known and loved by all here on the Board as the Panda Fun Palace™ ... and people still look at me strangely when I tell them I cycled it with Otocinclus ... Mind you, it didn't become the Panda Fun Palace™ until 2 years ago - prior to that, I'd had habrosus, julii/trilineatus, bolivianus and pygmaeus. Out of all, though, the Pandas have been by far and away the best. Because the Pandas are the only ones to have spawned to date ... and I now have three generations of Pandas!

The Panda Breeding Aquarium™ went live this year. Once I find a new home for its current inhabitants, Mata Hari and the boys will be let loose in there! Yay!

Panda Catfish fan and keeper/breeder since Christmas 2002
