How to know when a "hobby" is out of control... | |
houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | I'd love some advice...how do you know when a hobby has gone bad and you are now an addict? Another teacher buddy and I began simply by trying something "different" but still "the same" now I feel like a druggy after my next hit, and it keeps getting stronger and harder...I really need to just OD and then I might get over this "habbit"...in other words how do you quit eating chocolate, and trying "better" brands, styles, and tastes? I think we're in trouble, as we are both bouncing off the walls these days... "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |

If you have to question it, then you probably are. lol The best way I have found to deal with chocolate or any other sweets for that matter is "cold turkey". I keep no sweets in the house except for honey. I use that in my coffee instead of sugar. Also if my sweet urge kicks up too much, I put honey & butter on a piece of bread. I DO NOT run to the store if I want something sweet. The more you feed that craving, the worse it gets! It IS just like a drug addiction & the best way out is simply not to give in. If you do, you will just want more later. The urges die down more when you do without. But if you slip & indulge............. then just pick yourself back up & resolve not to do it again. Or you could just hook yourself up to a car battery and give yourself a mild electric shock everytime you think about chocolate. But probably the first step is to stop considering eating chocolate a "hobby". Joe Potato |
