ID this Optical Phenomenon | |
Natalie Ultimate Fish Guru Apolay Wayyioy Posts: 4499 Kudos: 3730 Votes: 348 Registered: 01-Feb-2003 | Today when I was on my way home I saw some kind of optical phenomenon from the sunlight reflecting/refracting off the cirrus clouds above. I thought it was a circumzenithal arc, but then I realized those face away from the sun, not towards it was this thing was doing. There was also another smaller one above the main one, closer to the sun (not pictured). Any ideas? I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Natalie Ultimate Fish Guru Apolay Wayyioy Posts: 4499 Kudos: 3730 Votes: 348 Registered: 01-Feb-2003 | Sundogs/parahelia are usually visible as distinct points of light, though occasionally they can be a band of colors too (but not usually as long as the thing I saw). These phenomena are, however, always aligned with the horizon on either side of the sun instead of below it, and are located closer to the sun. I'll try to draw a diagram of the complete rainbow-thing I saw. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
