Yeah, it was expensive, but it was worth it. I'd never be able to live with myself if my teeth looked like they did before I got braces. I had an overbite, and huge front teeth that had a big gap in between them, because they splayed out. It was HORRIBLE. Then I also had these nasty bangs too. Because I have cowlicks, my hair wouldn't do the whole all-the-bangs-in-the-front thing. They'd go to the sides and usually stick straight up too. My hair was about shoulder height, I had no sense of style... Blech, it was horrible. Now I wince every time I look at those old pictures.

I don't mind being treated like I'm older. I don't act like my 13 year-old peers, so I don't see why I should be treated like one. I would love to be older. I just can't relate to kids my age, and my social status in school echoes that.

There isn't much to enjoy at this time in life. We are generally rebellious, so we have to get away from our parents more to keep ourselves sane. We can't drive, so the aforementioned is harder. We can't pretend we have no troubles, we're just too old for that. There simply isn't anything carefree about this time in our lives. We're just learning social order, and beginning to dig deeper and learn about ourselves.

At any time in our lives there will be pressures and complications. Frankly, I much prefer those of someone of my actual maturity, not my age.

First: That is a beautiful smile. I hated braces...I couldn't eat my carrots that I liked. =(

Second: Would have guessed your age around 16-18. Not 13 going on 14.

Third: I agree, with other posts about the older people being out of high school visiting one and being in for an experience. When I was going to high school as a senior(few years ago) the incoming freshmen were so disgusting looking. 13-15 whatever their age range, boys would be wearing mesh shirts and sagging their pants down to their knees. Pathetic. Then the girls would be wearing spaghetti (sp) strap tanks, show mid-drift, and wear low cut jeans. Then again, my school was "ghetto" ...also had the highest rate of pregnancy than any other high school in the East Side District.

And high school is an entirely different experience from junior high. It all depends on the people you hang out with.

I do know the problems in this area, a friend of my brother's (15) caught a bus to the next state to meet a 35 yo man she met on the internet, it had the entire community in a tizz, we had no idea what had happenned, if she was dead or alive. Police found her 4 days later.

The only way you are naive Calla is thinking (maybe hoping) that something like what occured with your brothers friend couldn't be initiated here at FishProfiles.

It's not entirely the fabric and fashion that is to blame here. It is also the intent and desire that goes with it. I am not trying to give Janna a hard time over this. She is a lovely young girl and should be able to show it, just not "use it". I am hoping that she realizes that sometimes what is pretty and desirable comes from within, not what you can show of the outside.

I would venture a guess that "Mom" does not know that picture exists on the internet. I would bet money that Dad doesn't.

This is one interesting thread.

I think age mistakes are one of the biggest ones on FP, I know that I've had my age messed up countless times.

I must say, what Janna was wearing was completely acceptable. If any of you have your doubts about it, just take ONE step into my HS. Your views will totally change.

Natalie- I see that everyday. Kinda gross isn't it? Janna, my parents are somewhat similar to yours. They let me wear what I want, within reason. Technically, my tummy isn't supposed to show, and my jeans aren't supposed to look like they're painted on. (Which I don't have a problem with) Those are the rules mostly. Bra straps are supposed to be hidden, but I just think that looks bad anyway. Not to mention I could get away w/o them. *cough* I knew right off the bat that you were just wearing a cami. The thought of bra straps didn't even occur to me; you older folks have to take a walk into the juniors dept and learn the styles. *giggles*

I hit puberty early, but unfortunately just because YOU grow up, doesn't mean everyone around you will acknowledge that and stop acting like self-absorbed caterpillars!

19 onwards is looking pretty good.

I think its the insular environment of the school, brings out the worst in young adults. Once i left, i felt much more at ease.

I would NEVER have guessed you at 17. I thought you were a full fledged adult!! Goes to show, we never know.

Your height isn't bad. Not everyone is the same, but I would imagine you will still get somewhat taller. My middle daughter was still getting taller in her first year of college. She is 6'2" now and wishes she wasn't. Clothes are hard for her to find.

I hit the puberty stage when I was still in elementary school. By the time I got out of 6th grade I was just shy of 5'6". After that I only grew another inch or so. NOW I am starting to go the other way.

2 more months and mine are gone ... I guarantee that while my smile does look better now, and I have a stronger bite, It was not worth $3000 and all the pain.

The shirts come like that unfortunately. I am glad its ON both shoulders, not drooping off one. thats an ikky look.

I probably wouldn't wear the top, or if i did, it would be with a shoestring singlet underneath.
I have saggy shoulders though.

Sooo, the question then becomes do you give up the top, the bra, or wear something uncomfortable?

I would venture a guess that the top could be worn (at least before it was stretched) without having to pull the neckline down over the shoulders, therefore exposing anything.

I personally think that she can pull off the look without looking cheap (although i am aware that wasn't quite what you are getting at).

At 13 years old there should be no "pulling off the look". At 13 it looks disturbing, not cheap.

I own 3. I don't have much need for them, and they are highly uncomfy for the most part.


If Janna requires a bra, and some girls feel more comfy in them, then i'm glad she is wearing one.

With that particular top (which shows off her shoulders nicely i might add, no rounded slouchhing for this lassie!)you would have to wear a strapless bra, or a stick on bra, or those stupid plastic invisible straps.
All are awkward, and not as comfortable as a standard bra.

Note my very first under-eye circles, I am quite proud of them.

That's a great attitude, I wish I could think the same way about mine... I always tell myself they're just the result of too little sleep, but I'm afraid they're quite permanent now.

Janna, you're only 13!? I wouldn't have given you 20 years, but estimated you around 16 or so... I just cant seem to guess any girls age right. I don't even dare to put an age on Ferret now, I always thought you and Ferret were of the same age, so around 16, but now I will just let it go at "teenager"
