As almost none of you know, I'm in 8th grade (Yes, I'm probably the only 13-year old kid who hangs out on fish websites). Anyway, I'll be going to highschool next year, and a few weeks ago, I got my highschool letters!

It turns out I did really, really good! I made all 3 of my Co-op choices (Catholic highschools) and I made 1 special highschool. I am still waiting for my public highschool results, but I don't really want to go to any of those anyway. So far, I made:

Choice 1: Molly - on a half scholarship
Choice 2: Xavier - about a half scholaship
Choice 3: St. Francis Prep - no money (Becasue I put them last)
and Regis

Molloy and St. Francis Prep are highschools in Queens. Most of my friends are going to Molloy, which is sort of a jock school. St. Francis Prep is the largest Catholic highschool in the United States!

Regis and Xavier are both schools in Manhatten. Regis is probably the best school in the State, if not the country. One of the best parts about it is that there is no tuition! Xavier is a close second, though.

All in all, I've made up my mind and I'm going to Regis. I'm really happy for myself, because they only take about one hundred and something kids a year out of thousands!

Congratulations!

I didn't actually understand a single word of all that, but congrats anyway!

By the way, I think there are a few 12 & 13 & 14-year-olds on this site so no need to feel lonely

Awesome.

I went to public schools my whole life, but due to thefact that I was on the verge of killing myself the whole time in middle school because I was so miserable, I decided to try a different route for high school. I applied and was accepted into a small, private, college-preparatory high school, and I've never regretted it.

There's only about 80 students in the entire school, and the average class size is about 7 students. Because I have ADD, the small class sizes was a very welcome change (as opposed to 45 students per class in my middle school), because the individualized attention helps me concentrate.

Another thing that I like about my school is that there are no cliques like there were in public school. Everybody just sort of knows and is friends with everybody. There are even very few distinctions between classes, and there are even seniors that are very good friends with freshmen.

I'm a junior there now, and I'm still really glad I decided to go there instead of staying in the public school system. California public schools are the second worst in the country, and I've seen many educational newspaper articles titled something to the effect of "Well, At Least We Beat Alabama!".

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

I'm sorry to hear that Cory. I know what you mean by the cliquics. My class is controlled by them. There's the basketball clique, the punk, clique, and then there's the nerds(that's me). Everyone's so catty in my class. I'm really happy to leave. I'm glad you enjoy your new school though it sounds nice.

You apply to go to different high schools? o.0

Also, though Cali is somewhat down there in overall educational rankings, if you look at the top scoring high schools in America, most do indeed come from the Bay Area/Southern Cali. I'm sure San Jose has it's fair share of smarts (in fact, I think most schools in the silicon valley area are top of the line).

I personally can't not be in a clique. I feel odd not having people to connect with, generally speaking, through culture and/or interests. Most of my friends are SAT prepping, valedictorian racing "nerds" (as can be evidenced by the following: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Kleevage/e882.jpg-I'm the one in front with the beanie), though I prefer to lay back and let the good times roll (though, seeing as SATs are right around the corner, I better start preppin). Coming from a school with over, I believe, 3000 people, it's impossible not to have cliquage, especially in such a culturally diverse region such as Southern California.

Hey guys,
That must have been nice to get to chose your school, I went to public schools all my life, and now im in college....almost done

Unfortunately i was in a clique in high school, I was a cheerleader so that whole preppy brat clique...was, im ashamed to say, mine. But you live and learn I supposed. Have fun in high school, and even more fun in college!
