I am currently setting up independent study for myself (I'm a senior in HS). I'd thought I'd study something I find interesting--fish! So, I need some type of beginning icthyology books. I'm really open to just about anything. I've done some research as to textbooks online, but I'd like to know if anyone knows a good textbook.

Well, anything in the Aquariology series would be ideal, their health and disease one is very good, but they are all out of print, so you would have to buy 2nd hand.

There are also the BSAVA manuals, but thats mainly medical stuff.

Can you limit your topic area a bit?

I want to limit my study to freshwater fish--more focus on their enviornment and conservation issues--but honestly I am open to anything...
