I went to ********** yesterday to pick up some root tabs for some new plants I had bought, and while I was there I did my usual browsing of the fish. In the middle of all the little cups of bettas was a 2.5 gallon eclipse style tank which used to house one male betta. Not anymore... now this WAY overdecorated (almost NO room to swim in it) tank was housing... 3 ottos, 1 albino cory (poor thing looked lost), 1 male betta, 1 apple snail, 4 or 5 zebra danios, and 4 or 5 random tetras. I dragged the sales girl over (who had just failed the pop quiz I had given her after she professed to be a fish expert) and told her all the reasons I was discusted with the tank. I felt SO bad for those poor fish, and for all the fish bought for those tiny tanks after people saw this setup. I made sure to complain loud and clear, and naturally she handed the blame off to someone else, saying she had no clue who would have set it up like that. So, it is supposed to be changed now, and hopefully those poor little fish will be in a better situation.

Glad you took action. Sounds like someone set it up so it "looked good" without thinking that someone buying a tank may copy the set up.


(btw you may want to obscure the name of the shop with **** in the interests of avoiding litigation)

Thanks for the suggestion wish. Whoever set it up certainly had money in mind, and not the fish.

Yeesh. Sounds awful. Though, to be honest, the girl may not have known a thing about the setup, how it got there, or anything, so reaming her out may have been a little harsh. Sometimes I show up at work after a couple days off and somebody has done something stupid that I don't know about and customers complain to me; just because I'm a supervisor doesn't mean I have eyes in the back of my head while I'm on a day off!
But I agree that the tank was overcrowded. If you look at the box for the minibow 2.5 it says you can put gouramis, barbs, white clouds, bettas, and cories in it; most people who don't know better want all of the above, and I wont even recommend most of those!

I would have believed she had not noticed it if she had not been standing RIGHT next to it the whole time she was talking to everyone who came in. I was very nice about it though. I just let her know why it was wrong, and why it should be changed, and what a terrible example it was. I made sure to do it a little louder than normal though so she would be forced to listen rather than just act like I had never said anything. Do not worry, I did not act like she was to blame or anything like that.
