Wow Calla, that is mad weather. It wasn't as hot in Tassie, only 30 but then 3 days later we got snow, more snow that we had all winter even.

A great hello to those down below...

For 3 years/4 summers I lived in a little town here in Texas known as the hot spot of Texas...we would have highs of around 51 C and lows (at 2-4 am) of 38 C if we were lucky. At this time I didn't keep fish, there was no stabelizing the temperature in my house and we didn't have AC either...that said here is how I survived...

1. Forget hot water for bathing/showering...cold is the only way to go...
2. Wear only 100% cotton, the less the better, of course...
3. When at all possible don't go outside from 11 am to 2 pm...it's the hottest time of the day...
4. Do not use the stove if at all possible...
5. Drink plenty of water...
6. Ice packs around the neck area are wonderful...
7. Keep your inside lights out when possible, and keep blinds, curtains, etc closed...For an even better result, get some Aluminum Foil and cover your windows with this, it will block out the sun...
8. The above being said, if the house is hotter than outside, get a couple of box fans and create a breeze way by placing them in windows, use one to suck in the cooler air, and one to blow out the hotter air, you can do this throughout your house/apartment...also ceiling fans are wonderful!!!
9. Finally sleeping was my hardest time, I can't sleep if I'm hot and sweaty...In the morning I would sprinkle, mist my top sheet with water, and fold it up and put it in the freezer for the day, when you go to bed, sprinkle the bottom sheet (can also freeze this one if need be) get the top sheet out of the freezer, and climb in bed with the sheet of course on top of you...Having a fan blowing on you at all times is a must...

Like I said I survived 4 summers this way...I'll be hoping for cooler weather for you real soon, though it sounds like summer is just beginning for you...Take care, Heidi

Hey guys,

Have not dropped in here for some time. Did notice the paper article about the warm weather. Wonder how is it now? Will be going over to Sydney in 5 days time. Was hoping to escape the warm tropical weather here....

Hiya Callatya,

OK. I probably have to go one higher then from your recommendation, afterall I spent most of my time in the tropical weather and would not be used to chilly environments. I almost died of cold when I went to the Blue Mountains in June. You said it's warming up again? Darn...

On travel plans? Well will be spending some time in Manly and then the rest at Sydney itself. Would do some stuff some days while the rest should be spend doing nothing. I am supposed to be on a retreat. Would do the Bridge Climb, I hope to ask my travel mate something at the top. Could visit the Sydney Aquarium since we did not do that the last time. We loved the botanical gardens so that would probably be one of our do nothing for the day stops.

Hiya Whetu and Tryst,

Thanks. She has not agreed yet, but sure hope she would say YES. Praying that the weather will be fine that day for us to climb.

Is it in Sydney?

-edit-

It's OK, I found out through his profile. Hope everything is fine over there.

My mum lives up past there (thankfully just a little north)... she is ok this time i think, but they always have the roads shut down in heavy weather...

From ABC, Australia:
Bellingen, Coffs Harbour declared disaster areas

Hope they all have their waterwings handy

<-- thinks where Tim lives must be cooler.... *hint hint*

yeah, thats pretty much the plan Babel. Lots of nighttime doing stuff.

I dragged out our wimpy little portable A/C today (it was under a ton of storage crud in the birds room) and i'm going to set it up in my study so i can type without my brain simmering away in my noggin.

And i think we will be eating a lot of sandwiches and salads for dinner!
