Just to update....

I got my hard cast a week and a half ago, and since then any time I stand up or sit up my ankle swells to the size the hard cast allows, then my toes turn purple(read as really hurts). I've now had my leg up for over two weeks(since I broke it) and the swelling still cuts off the circulation to my toes. The doc said either to wait it out or surgury were the only options, and I really don't want surgury so I'll be on the couch and out of the FP for at least onother week. Oh yeah....and I get my wisdom teeth out a week from tomorrow. yeah!

Hope you are doing better meriadoc and Dakafall...and thanks for the sympathy to everyone else.

Broken legs, another reason to hate snow!

To those in hard casts (I've had my share of them) with itching. I clothes hanger does wonders.

Straighten it out first. Use pliers and make a loop at the end, wrap it with duct tape. Insert it into cast and scratch away....

It is pure bliss!

HI FIVE MATT, SKI JUMPING AND KILLING YOURSELF

on saterday i did a stupid kinda like matt, i was at one of our largest ski areas in the state, i went of a 15ft jump, tried to do a 360, only got about 3/4 of the way and did a 270 basically, i landed on the landing pad, which, by the end of the day, was basically an inclined sheet of ice, yea, i hit hard, fell, rolled onto my right shoulder, broke my rib, tore my upper bicep, bruised my neck, hurt my back, and got a bloody nose, and split my lip, no fun

Awwww

*wonders how she missed this for so long...*

I've been in 4 casts...so I shouldn't really talk.

I gotta say, you're lucky that you BROKE things, and not sprained them, b/c sprains take longer to heal IME.

What color cast did you get.

*passes her cast cover over* I must admit, it makes showering much easier.

Hope you two feel better soon...I know how ya feel. Been through broken ankles/feet/toes and foot surgery.

Thanks heidi...just make sure you flick the lights on/off two dozen times when entering and leaving a room. That is sure to get rid of any possible hex's.

you know t pluck the hairs out individually or in very small clusters. thus increasing the pain by tenfold and carrying the process out over many painful hours.

I broke my leg, both bones of the lower leg near my ankle, on friday night while skiing. I guess I should stick to jumping into huge piles of snow. My bindings failed me, and as I looked down I only saw one bright green ski. As I fell my right foot twisted and snapped. Thankfully the boot kept my leg lined up well and I won't need surgury, just a hard cast for a while. The swelling was too bad to get the hard cast friday(my ankle was as big as my calf), so I will be getting one wednesday. Needless to say I won't be online as much because I have to keep my leg elevated, and my computer desk is hardly the place to do that. My poor fish will get even less attention, and the new kitty and I might get a little (more) skinny. On the plus side I got my two books from amazon.com on planted tanks, and I'm sure I will have plenty of reading from school to keep me busy.

Hopefully I won't miss any good discussions in the planted forum....and keep the lyrics assosiation going for me until I get back!

I am under strict orders to keep the leg up, but I needed to get pills and a couple other things(food) so I decided it was worth it. It was only a couple hours out of the house. The rest of the time I'm on the couch.

I know what you mean about it hurting other places....my heel really hurts from the splint sometimes worse than my ankle/leg. Oh and the itching....argh!

@ babel

Whetu - thanks for the waxing kit...

yeah, but we're talking bones here.. a little different from the rest of your body.

and the cast does offer protection, but not as much as you may think. its heavy, and even now it still hurts for the cast to sit on the leg in certain spots. just getting used to it is a bear, because it is tight, it hurts other parts of the foot also - feels like its rubbing directly on the skin and causing blisters and whatnot. but it isn't. it just takes a while to get used to the weight on the leg.

my husband used to live in denver, and he used to see alot of skiiing injuries come ski season.. it can be a pain in the proverbial...

but you do get used to it - and yeah, you'll get people smacking the cast and the splint - thats why i pretty much stayed as a hermit for the first week, only going out when i needed to see the doctor about the leg.

heck, my cast is bright orange - and people still don't notice it I'd recommend not going out unless you really have to - order a pizza or something, and just stay off it as much as you can. I'm surprised the doctor didn't say keep it elevated till you see the specialist about the cast - i was under strict orders to do that while i had the splints. My post surgery splint was only a one way stabilisation, and i know how you feel about it hurting.

mine is only NOW just starting to not hurt - but even with the cast, i still forget that i have to be careful and not put weight on it. see if the doc can prescribe some sleeping pills or whatever to help you sleep.

I'm on Vicodin right now, and I really hope I don't need them in a week, cause I can't really sleep well right now and making my 8am class would be really tough. Anyways, they don't work...even taking two 500mg tabs at once barely quiets the pain, but I can deal with it. I was just hoping that the pain would either go away soon or I get something more powerful so I can get some sleep at night.

The guy I'm seeing is an orthopedic surgeon and has an office right next to the ski resort and he said that he sees this stuff ALL the time. There were about 3 people in the office when I was there. I guess skiing is dangeresque. As for rehab (is that what you were talking about?) I'll ask about that wednesday. I work at a gym, so I'll be reluctant to pay anybody to to give me a workout.
