hmmm. Number 2 may have some instability due to cooling problems unless it is very well ventilated, it will also be a pig in terms of battery life. Is the 9600 integrated, mobility or other? The mobility Radeons are slightly better.

they're probably about the same.

AMD and Intel have differences in terms of how they rate their processors. Generally though, unless you're concerned about battery life - i would recommend going up to a 64bit processor

I've got an Nvidia geforce togo video card - play the sims with maxed out settings as well as NFS6 running with high settings also. Performance wise, i've never had any better.

Granted I know little about computers compared to alot of people here - but I've been using laptops for quite a few years now.

BTW - check out the widescreens Mine's got a 15.4 inch widescreen

yeah, but as i found out - the centrino processors aren't as powerful as the P4 equivalents.

I myself have a compaq presario with an AMD64 1.8ghz processor with 512mb ram (upgradeable to 1025mb), 40gb hd, DVD/CD-RW.

Not top of the line, but alot more game friendly than the centrino / mobile processors
