Can you imagine how much trouble we'd get in if we glued the eqivalant sized crytals on a puppy and tried to sell it as a fashion accessory?? Hard to fight that battle when the other option is squishing it under your shoe though. If there was anything that deserved to be on "What the?", this has got to be it. |

I had some of those hissing roaches in a rent house I lived in once because the previous tenants kept them as pets and let them get loose. Believe me, the last thought on mind when I saw one of those monsters holding the refrigerator hostage with an AK-47 was grabbing him up and slapping some crystals on him to wear to a cocktail dinner. I believe my first thought was to grab a can of Raid. I used the whole can, and, in the end, I'm not sure if he was poisoned or drowned. I'll have to pass. Its sounds disgusting, but its not really. They are a bit big and ugly and I can see why people get knee-jerk reactions to them though. I wouldnt do the jewellery thing to them though, its seems needlessly cruel even for a roach, even though I have fed them to lizards in the past. They would be unable to cast off old exoskeletons with stuff glued to them and would probably die, even if the added weight didnt ruin their legs. Ironic they give out keeping instructions when youre unlikely to get them to live more than a week or two with the jewellery on. Its a humble man who respects a cockroach |

The closesed thing I would ever approve of would be painting the shells (Dont think thats harmful unless the crab didn't like the color) I've seen those at the mall and stuff. Around your neck though? Thats disturbing... Inky |

I mean, it'd be bad if they picked something else, but a cockroach is hardly gonna give them any sales. I suppose there is the thing that it's flightless, but still... -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

As soon as I got home and put some natural shells in their tank they changed shells immediately. Later, I read that their 'goal' in nature is to blend in as much as possible to avoid becoming a snack, and even though they are in captivity they don't comprehend that the danger is gone. I guess they felt like they were sticking out like sore thumbs in painted shells....can't imagine why. Roaches are still icky!! "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder." |
