That is a sweet Cat Fish. I never thought her name was a species.

Looks like they are pretty easy going when it comes to water chemistry. It just (planet catfish) says that clean water is very important. As I know you noodles, I'm sure that will not be an issue.

Great tank.

Not that this has anything anything to do with the subject at hand, but I just recently wrangled up a quartet of C. perugiae, C_perugiae. Any tips?

I am aware of the worth, and the consequences thereof. I am perfectly happy with the gravel currently in place. *minds snail shells* There was about 30lbs of gravel that needed to be replaced anyway. Unfortunately I did not consider it worth my time for the hassel. We did not have time to dry it out as I was thinking about the safety of the fishies. I felt the pump was off long enough and did not wish to kill off the bacteria and such. I'm sure that we could have thought of a thousand ways to save the gravel but I am not worried about it.

Thank you for your concern.

Here is a picture of the actual fish that Shannen spoke of above...

errr toss it out?

Yeah, I wasn't in town when Jamie got the tank, so wasn't around to see what kind of gravel it was being tossed.

Had I been there it would have been saved. Alas it is gone. *cries*

*kicks dumb luck*

I hope you didn't throw that gravel away... just leave it dry for a while to kill the snails. That stuff is worth a lot of money; if you don't mind snail shells, you can reuse again sometime.

Botia angelicus are sweet... congrats on the great pick.

Yeah, we changed it out. The old stuff had a pretty bad snail issue going on.

Tossing the gravel, and the addition of 3 of these guys, has taken care of any snails in the tank.

Yeah the rhizome is just above the gravel. Not that we didn't try to plant it tho.

The Hair Algae has gotten a lot better with the addition of CO2, ferts, and some fast growing plants. I'll check for and add as needed some nitrates. I have to get some stump remover anyhow..My other tank is getting BGA now.]:|

Did you guys change the gravel? Looks different from when I saw it last... he moved over a year ago, so I may be wrong. Seems to me it was a mix of Eco-Complete and Flourite.

Have you tested NitrAte in the tank lately? If it's below 5ppm, trying adding some... bring it up to 5-10ppm and that hair algae should go away. He was controlling it like that before, had great luck... must've slacked off in the last few months.

Looks like you guys have a bunch of Anubias barteri var "coffeefolia" in there at the moment. The red stem plant is Ammania gracilis. Is the Anubias planted into the substrate? If it is, pull it up enough so the rhizome is showing or the plant will jump out of the tank and beat you over the head.

Here is a pic of it for you. I added a some fast growing plants, to try to help with the algae.

The java has been sent to the corner for a time out. It was the worst off.

We have it removed from the tank and in a dark room right now, hoping to kill the algae before it kills the ferns.

He had boo koo algae in the tank when I picked it up, including what appears to be the hair algae. The albino bristle nose and ottos have been trying their hardest but I am affraid with the amount of light the tank actually gets, it's hard to keep the algae down. Oh well, I am not too worried about it.

Yeah the hair algae seems to be a problem in our southern facing side of the house tanks. Too much sun. But WOW this stuff popped up in the first week with a full on assault.

One Question?

If I get you pics can you ID these plants, I've never seen any of them other than the crypts.

I'm gonna also add some fast growing stem plant, to keep it under control. That and rosy barbs.

They don't look like they eat it, they just like to swim around with it in their mouths.]

If you have any ID questions at all, just let me know. Most of the plants in that tank are from my tanks. He's never had hair algae problems in there from what I can remember because he was very good at dosing fertilizers on a regular basis... the red plants (probably Ammania gracilis) will let you know if you're getting behind.

Hey, guys. A friend of mine in Florida recently gave his tank to someone on this site. It was a 75, full of plants, with some community fish... I was hoping to start a line of communication with the people who took his fishies in. Some of them were mine and I just want to know how they're doing, as well as offer any help I can to make sure the fish will be fine.<br><br>Post on this thread if you know anything about who took the tank, so I can contact them. <br>Thanks!

Shannen, I'd love to see a "how to" on gages for DIY CO2. That would be great!

I assure you ~Jamie~ is a female. I would have found out by now.

The Plants he had are also doing very well. The red ones I had to move closer to the light, but all in all they are doing very well. I'm even gonna have to post the pics of most of these plants to get an ID for them, but they are nice.

I even got bored today designed and hooked up a dual 2 ltr DIY CO2 set up to feed directly into the canister filter. I have gages on each to tell me when one bottle is getting low.

I'll try to find the time and write a how to. This thing is by far my best DIY CO2 ever.

Did he have a problem with hair algea? The only room we had left with enough space for such a tank was in my den. It's southernly facing and gets alot of sun.

The rosy barbs we added were to help pic this stuff off of this odd looking java fern in the fron of the tank.

They've worked well on our other tanks we have faceing the south. *shrugs*

Feel free to PM ~jamie~ or I with any questions.

Shannen

Wish your friend good luck in Japan for us.

ROTFLMAO! THAT would be a shocker on their wedding night! I would also be impressed with the fact that "she" managed to give birth to a son! LOL! That was too funny!
