FP Great freeze out? Would that be the crash of 2004? If so let's not have a repeat, I don't feel like camping out elsewhere for nowand I'm sure Adam doesn't feel like spending a trillion hours to get us back up and running...

whats this about? was there like a crash thing & some people went missing?

For those whose FP tenure does not extend back that far, allow me to fill in the details.

Around September 2004, the FishProfiles board underwent a sort of meltdown. Adam had to perform a major piece of emergency CPR on the server and the software to get FP back up and running, and it took about a month if I recall correctly. Posts predating that period have been archived, but access to them is somewhat difficult for various technical reasons (I'm sure Adam can explain all of this in much better detail than I can, debugging time allowing of course). However, the board and the entire FishProfiles portal now resides on an excellent quality server, which accounts for the fast response I'm now getting on my home connection.

Keeping FP on a good server with decent response is a good reason, incidentally, for more of us to upgrade to Premium membership, which I hope to do once my credit card is clear (I've just spent a year trying to erase the credit card debt). Hopefully, in the next month, my next credit card statement will come back saying "congratulations, you owe us nothing", at which point I can go for a Premium membership

Anyway, the 2004 meltdown gave Adam the opportunity to perform some analysis, and now he's made some optimisations to the database handler at the server end, plus the ASP scripts that keep these pages up and running, which along with various other tweaks mean that the server CPU only sees heavy usage when we actually post. Viewing forums and posts has been subject to some tweaking to keep the actual database accesses down to a minimum, so that the server response is suitably quick.

Oh, and Adam, if you're passing this way, have the bugs in the picture uploading to profiles been sorted? Only if they have, I have a brace of Panda Cory photos you're welcome to include in the Panda profile!

Should have known that Cali would know for sure and be able to explain it It really caused great withdrawals for some of us so someone sorry can't remember who provided us with some temporary camping grounds where we resided for the month, then came back here in full forceand if I remember correctly Adam spent tons of hours, reworking this so that we could come back as fast as it did...Thanks Adam and Lindy for all ya'll do in keeping us up and running, heidi michelle

Cory_Di has been ill. I think she's mentioned this on several occasions. I believe she's a fairly severe asthma sufferer among other woes.
