Why is it that every year there is one really great toy that all the 3-8 year old kids want that people scoop up by the wagons and sell them for double the price on ebay? IMO this is just wrong. If these people would just leave em on the shelves unless they were giving them as a gift, there would be plenty to go around for the rest of us. Of course they are sold out, since these jerks can't help but rip off the parents of kids who believe in Santa still. It really sucks like a hoover, especially for people like myself who are on a very tight budget.

It's not that I am against free enterprise, but kids these days have a hard enough time staying innocent. Why can't we just stick to friendly competition among parents. If it were some other desperate mom trying to keep HER 3 year old happy, I wouldn't be so cranky, but man! There are over one thousand listings on ebay, and some sellers have 3 or 4 of them.

In closing, if any of you would happen to find a V-smile for retail, I would gladly reimburse you via paypal, and pay REASONABLE shipping to get it here. My youngest son wants one pretty bad, and he asked Santa for it. Unless I can find it for retail, he won't get it, and that is just wrong.

Honey, is this what you are looking for? [link=http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3307989]http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3307989" style="COLOR: #FF0000[/link]

If it is then let me know.....I have a friend who works at walmart and is head of the toy section. She can most likely get one and hold it for me.

well, it's either the trendy thing for little kids to have, or it's a conspiracy by the toy makers to sell a crapload of something that nobody needs anyway. depends who you ask

How funny.. My husband and I have been calling around all day trying to find a store that still has those things on the shelf.. Only one store had them, and they weren't holding any stock.. First come, first serve.. By the time hubby got there, all gone.. Very frustrating..

Of course, if we just wait 2 weeks after Christmas there will be shelves and shelves of them available..

Gotta love holiday shopping..

i start my current christmas shopping december 26th of the previous year. within a week or so after christmas, the markdowns are amazing. depending on the age of your child, wait until after christmas to purchase that "must have" toy- it will be much cheaper and more easily available.

the suckers who buy inflated toys for their kids because of a commercilaized holiday are missing they joy of buying unexpected gifts throughout the year for no other reason then "i love you."

Well I was raised by a single mom, so sometimes there wouldn't be enough cash to buy my most wanted present in time for Christmas, and she'd wait to buy it during Boxing Day sales after.

Usually what she'd do is make a certificate, for example: REDEEMABLE FOR ONE V-SMILE (in my case it was usually a barbie or something ) and then she'd decorate the certificate with sparkles, stickers and crayons and put it in a pretty envelope. Santa would give me the certificate for Xmas, and then after the holiday we would go shopping one day to pick it up together. Her explanation was that sometimes santa's helpers have to put something on special hold for extra special children, and I always thought shopping was fun so I didn't mind.

Other times she would give me a letter saying the present would be specially delivered to me in a few days, and I would find it wrapped up on some random morning.

If you can't get the present, that might help.

The problem with buying a "must have" item for children after Christmas for the following year is that they usually no longer want it tend to look at you like you are crazy for trying to pawn it off on them after so long....

I like your coupon idea tryst, and actually have used it myself on more than one occaision for people who already understand about me and money, although never for a small child- Do you think it would work for a little girl who hates shopping and thinks Santa is made of time and money???
*sigh* I really should have thought about this type of thing when I was telling her all those amazing stories...

Well, Mom found one over in Yakima Washington, fortunately, so I am now good. Yes, I know that Christmas isn't about the things we buy, which is why I get so upset when people are out to make a quick buck on little kids. I am sure I would have been able to find something else that would have worked, but this was perfect for him. While everyone's ideas were good ones, there is no way it would have worked for my son. He isn't an only child, and how do you explain to him why everyone else has a gift and he doesn't have anything but some clothes? Yeah.....riiiiight. His brothers would take great joy in the whole "you were bad, so Santa stiffed you this year" angle.
