Here's my house I'm fixing up.

Not real big, maybe 1000sq ft with a weird maze of rooms that don't use the space that well, but it's sitting on alot of land and it's a really sturdy old house with stone foundation and stone garage.

There's also a room in the basement of about 20x15' that I can turn into a fish room. Concrete floor, heated, and just through the doorway is the perfect connection for my RO system. Currently there's so much stuff left sitting in it that I can't even measure the exact dimensions. We burnt 20 loads of trash and junk, donated 10 or so truckloads of clothes and random items, and temporarily filled 2 garages with furniture. There's still too much left for me to get a full pic of a room without falling backward over top of something. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/aqh88/house/DSC00849.jpg

Oh the house also comes with this.

I call him Boots. He's an odd cat with one bent ear that actually likes to ride in my truck. I have to make sure he's locked inside when I leave or he runs onto the driveway and sits practically under the front tire so I won't leave without him. I'm not sure how long he's going to live doing that.

The electrician is almost done rewiring the place, they replaced the windows, and are ready to start redoing the wood floors(after we finish getting the junk out). There's only going to be a tiny chunk of carpet in the living room and the rest is all wood or in the kitchen linoleum. Now I have to figure out what to paint the place. I decided I'm painting the 2 bedrooms the color I did the room at my mom's house. It's a medium slightly grey blue with a very light blue off-white ceiling. But I've no idea what goes with that. I also gained a dark blue fake suede leather couch and the bathroom has a blue grey tile halfway up with currently green walls. Anything has to be better than the current kitchen colors. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/aqh88/house/DSC00847.jpg The dining room and livingroom are basically painted a more tan version of whats in the kitchen. Anyone good at picking out colors?

What a lovely house ! .
Whatever you do please don't scrape and repaint that side door on the garage! Just cover it over with shellac, the cracked peeling look is just perfect on it .
I had to repaint my service door on my house before I was allowed to sell (co-op rules ), it was nicer without the repainting.

Kitchen, gaaaa what horrid wallpaper! Almost bad as the spit splattered succatash stuff my parents still have up in the kitchen even 15 years after they bought the place! I'd get that wallpaper down first. Is the paint a gloss or a matte? The color doesnt seem all that bad in the pic, just a basic Ivory, although it may be too yellow IRL. If it is just an ivory I'd say it's fine (unless it's real wood cabinets under there). Maybe just strip wallpaper, repaint ceiling and find some nice antiquey handles for the doors. If it is real wood I'd sand it down, do the facings first then when you have more time do the rest of them. With lighter cabinets you can do a stronger color on the walls without it looking like the whole room is going to fall in on you. Maybe a warm orange or red tone.....
Behrs site is pretty good ...not sure the shade of the floor...but found something similar to what might work with those colors. Just don't keep with the blue theme please, cool blue in a kitchen is just too cold in winter!

That looks like a big house to me sham!

And along with the cat it looks like you also got some plants & a wood burning stove! Or maybe it burns coal or oil? I don't know my stoves. But it may come in handy in the future if there's a power outage.

A new house............ how fun! I love moving...........except for the work involved.

A cat with a bent ear............ hmmmm you could name him Bently.

Looks like a wonderful house
I agree with the color scheme that babel posted a picture of, my kitchen is very similar and it looks great, the color in there now is kind of a sickening yellow.
Looking at the picture of the basement, I see that you have work ahead of you but you will end up with an awesome fish room.

I'm jealous of that basement. That will make one nice fish room for you and with that concrete floor no worries about spills or even a tank failure. The rest of the house looks nice too. Enjoy.

Side note on the concrete, aparently it's coming back (well had come back in the past few years) as a trendy flooring option. People actually rip out their old floors to put in concrete !...

My parents house had horrid carpet that kept getting soaked each time it flooded , they tore the carpet out and used concrete paint, looked quite nice. Depending on how much natural light the basement gets you could try painting, or just add a bunch of layers of clear for depth to it. Then add fishtanks and a futon or daybed your set .

BTW nice kitkat not only is boots right, but it the way he's standing he looks like the illustrations from a copy of puss in boots I had when I was little(er) had the cat in 1700's heeled boots.

Oh, and watch a few itallian cooking shows on your local PBS station for some good ideas on kitchen colors, they're good at color those itallians .

*waiting for her house to sell so she can buy one and PAINT* .

I guess the kitchen yellow is a bit brighter in person. Everyone who sees it comments on it plus the wallpaper as being the worst decorationg decision they've ever seen. It's horrid looking. My aunt just said paint it any color but that. My mom suggested using a cream color kinda like the vanilla custard on that color scheme but then she kinda ruined my faith in her paint choosing ability when she told me to paint the dining room this really light nearly lime green. I hate green anyway unless it's really really dark and a small room would be better off with light colors.

Yeah that wallpaper is something else isn't it . I think whoever designed it should be burried in it . Make getting it out of there this weekends project, I'd come help but I think you'd be finished by the time I got there!

I hope we get pics of the progress .
