I have now completed the new xml fish profiles system.

When you view any of our freshwater or marine fish profiles, you will see that they are now in xml format. To view the new profiles in their intended format, you need Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, Netscape 6.0 or above, or Firefox 0.9 or above.

When viewing the profiles, you will notice there are alot more fields shown. These fields have always been populated in the database and used for finding similar or compatible species. They are now visible for anyone to see.

You will also notice that at the bottom of each profile there is a dropbox which will allow you to edit a particular part of the profile. Once you edit the profile a change request is created here: [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/" style="COLOR: #000080[/link]

Any change requests is subject to peer review by other members of FishProfiles.com. To prevent abuse of this system a voting process is enabled. In order for a change request to be approved or rejected, a total of plus or minus 5 votes must be provided by other members. Different levels of membership have different voting levels:

Standard Memebers: Voting will add/subtract 1 point to the vote count
Premium Memebers: Voting will add/subtract 2 points to the vote count
Moderators: Voting will add/subtract 3 points to the vote count
Admins: Voting will add/subtract 4 points to the vote count

You cannot vote on your own submissions. All change requests are kept in a history file with the old information and the new information displayed side-by-side, along with the author and the voters. An example is here: [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/history/clownloach.xml]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/history/clownloach.xml" style="COLOR: #000080[/link]

I have also made creating a new profile much easier than the old system. To create a new profile, use this page: [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/submit.asp]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/submit.asp" style="COLOR: #000080[/link]

New profiles will also be subject to review but only by members of Premium level or above. Again, this is to prevent any potential abuse of the system.

New profiles require 6 positive votes to be approved, or 8 negative to be rejected.

All of these changes have been made to facilitate a much fater approval process for new profiles, and to increase the information and accuracy of the existing profiles.

The most important link to remember is the review directory: [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/" style="COLOR: #000080[/link]
If you are interested in having input on what information is displayed on each profile, you can vote using this link.

FishProfiles is now in your hands.
