I keep missing out on these lately, so I'm posting this partly to remind myself!

The next QFAS super auction starts at 4pm (fish in by 3pm for sellers), at St Josephs College Basketball Stadium, Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill.

Join me, Brisbanites!

Yeah, I think the Bar Jai was getting too crowded. Hope they have better food on offer too (vegetarian options, for example)

Grrr. Friends planned a dinner party for a friend's birthday for the same night, and on the Gold Coast too (why I have no idea, most of us live in Brisbane now including the birthday boy). Am trying to get it rearranged for Friday night, but it's starting to look like I'll miss this auction too - and I've been waiting for it for months!

Of all the weekends, why did he have to choose THIS one to go and be born on 28 years ago?

Got my first fish in aussieland, I've got a bunch of WCMM and my first cichlids! Didnt get any java fern though

JB, your plants finally came up about two hours after you finally got your pizza ! Most of them went for aroudn $20.

Noooooo!! How many were people getting for $20, do you know?

I always enjoy the auctions even if I don't buy anything (or eat anything...you'd think I'd have learnt my fish-auctions-don't-cater-for-vegetarians lesson by now), it's fun to see what things go for and see if any rarities come up. That one auctioneer was driving me nuts though.

"Okay people, we have lots to get through so we're going to have to start moving things along a bit more quickly. Now we have a colony of electric yellows. These are great fish, these electric yellows, they are very yellow, yes, they look great don't they, a lovely yellow when they are young and they are still the same yellow when they are adults, and quite a placid cichlid too, and of course very yellow, and this is a great bargain as it's a nice colony of these lovely yellow electric yellows, oh and now here's my longwinded rundown on the keeping and breeding of these fish, and now we'll actually start the bidding."

And then afterwards:

"Now we've got an awful lot to get through so can we start moving it all along a little bit more quickly?"

Oh he wasn't mucking around, not even after he sold 20 lots of electric yellows and had something great to go with those electric yellows, electric blues!.....even 20 times later at 10:30.

They went pretty quickly, one large variety came up first, but a few lots later a bunch of smaller ones came up so there were lots of sales. If people know their plants ('you'll know this is just a bar-gan, it's an absolutly beeeutiful plant, it's really a great deal') they should be able to have plenty to sell at the next auction.
A few more lots of java came up, single rhizomes ended up going for $11 I think? All I needed was one! but I wasn't going above $5...

Ended up with kribs, I think it was maybe 5 for $11 or so .

Yep it was fun for sure, but next time I'm bringing vegemite and cheese sammiches, a sweater and maybe a blanket!

^_^
