tryst we could rent a one room suite with like adjoining doors to another one and party it up at night! lol

i haven't been to the falls for like 5 years, lol. however, lots of walking.

babel our augusts are rather hot.....the mist of the falls and water will be nice, but july's tend to be a bit less hot..at least with my experiences, Niagra's near more water tho, will be cooler.

for some reason this has got me craving Wonderland? LOL

Wow, way more interest in this than I was expecting.

OK.....as far as fish stores on the Canadian side of the border go, there really isn't a lot in the Niagara area but there is a Big Al's STORE in Hamilton, about 1/2 hr or 45 mins away if you're a slow driver. Here's a map of the area...

and a few pics of my big al's store.....I go there quite a bit

If anyone wants to go there it is a pretty good store, it's on the way for anyone driving back in a "westerly" direction.

I just had a thought....if anyone wants to do it, you may be able to save some money staying just outside of Niagara Falls as well, the hotels are really close to the same but a 15-20 minute drive from the falls can save you a LOT of money. The falls themselves and "fallsview" hotels are heavy tourist kind of places so they can be a bit pricey in the summer.

I'd love to meet up in the falls. I live in buffalo, so if anyone needs a place to crash for a night or two or whatever my couch is available, but you have to remember that I'm a college student, and I live in a college student apartment.

That being said LM is right. THE fish place is THE place to go. I can drive, 15 minutes from my apartment. Plus, they just got done remodelling.

ok, mrs moondog is very interested if there is camping since we were planning a camping trip this summer anyway. it's a little out of our range, but we can find a way there i'm sure. the only stipulation is that it can't be the last weekend of the month, because she *HAS* to be at work on that saturdy very very early in the morning. so if we could maybe look for doing this sometime early in the month then we might be able to make it (as long as it doesn't conflict with any of the other events we have planned :%))

Tryst....

The Fish Place in North Tonawanda? Been there. Bought my 120 gallon there. Great store.....

Just a FYI type thing... GaryRoland was a native of Buffalo, New York. Talked fondly of his youth there.

You don't have to steal it babel....just let me know, and I'll (re)warm it up for ya.

I talked to gary once and he mentioned a good store closer to the falls, it was (something) Aquariums. It was on the American side. I've been meaning to go there.

The best thing about the fish place is that the staff knows what they are talking about, or is it the 2000 Gallon tank....maybe it's the fish selection, or plant selection.....:%)

EDIT: I remember now....Niagara Aquariums....duh

Oh oh oh !

Pick me pick me!!!

Ferret has a house by Niagara Falls

Actually it's a bit of a drive, but under 2-3? hours, and if I wasn't 16 I'd let you all crash there, but unfortunately we have to get that by the parents first...

If there's no specific date, may I propose one? I'll be upstate the first week/week and a half of July, during the weekend of the 4th. I have a good chance of going and meeting up with you guys if you go then. And boy would I love to! Being a younger member without a license, it's hard for me to get together with you guys, but heck I have a house upstate NY!

I'll have to see if the FP kids can crash at my place.

PARTY IN FERRETS CABIN!!!

I'm excited

yeahhh FP party

however, lots of walking.

Yeah it is a lot of walking, I'll most likely be renting a wheelchair so I can last the whole day instead of having to take a big nap after an hour, unless some miracle happens and I'm feeling a lot better by then. Rentals are $15 for the day at the falls, I don't know if that is helpful for anyone else. Just please, nobody try and wheel me down a big hill and over the falls (especially not in a fish costume )....I would NOT be pleased.

Moondog, camping sounds great, there are a few campgrounds that I know of that have sites for about $40 a night. MUCH better than the price of a hotel and we can roast some marshmallows.

Babel, the average temperature in Niagara Falls for August is about 26 C or 78 F, probably quite a bit cooler than what you're used to for that time of year. We don't usually see temps in the triple digits (F) unless we have a massive heat wave or something. July is a bit hotter.

I would love to go up there for the first week of July but with Canada Day celebrations and the 4th of July it would be VERY VERY CROWDED. I have been there during that weekend and it's insane. The beginning/middle of August would be better IMO.

I'm up for visiting that LFS in Buffalo. No need to worry about bringing anything across the border, if there are any other Canadians that want to check it out, any tropical fish can be brought back as long as they're for personal uses.

Go for the power chairs. They are funner . If I were coming, I would rent a power chair just because thats cool. Power chairs are great. WOOHOO! I don't need one... but I tried one out in a Home Depot one time... It was great! but don't they have like horses or donkeys like the grand canyon. A nature experience would be cool.

Daniel

I rented power chairs when I was at Sea World and Disney World over the Xmas break, they are pretty fun once you get used to driving them but they're not so great for getting around small areas.

I'll definitely be getting one of those if they are available, not sure if they are at the falls. The only problem with them is that I like to get up to walk around shops and things, so when people see you getting up and walking around out of your chair they can make some really rude comments. One woman told me and my mother that I was using the scooter just to get "preferred service" at Disney World and should be ashamed of myself. ] All I can say that if anyone is looking for a good way to tempt me to hit them, that is one excellent way to do it. Best to not get me started on the topic of having to prove my level of mobility, I could be ranting for years. '

There are a TON of hotels around the falls, in every price range.... You can get a room for under $100 USD or you can spend a lot more. I would offer to put people up but I don't have my own house or car and I live over an hour away in the summer.

I think a weekednd or overnight trip at least would probably be better if a lot of people are interested in coming from out of town. There are group rates at many of the hotels. Keep in mind that summer is peak tourism season so rates will be higher than other times.

Another option is camping, if there are others that don't mind roughing it. It is cheaper and more fun IMO.

This is very exciting. Good to see interest in it, I was thinking it might just be stormy and I.
