My boyfriend said if he'd had to pay for it instead of coming with the console he would have been pissed. Mainly the bowling is the worst. It always goes left. No matter what it curves left at the end of the lane. Eventually everyone was lining it up straight for the right gutter and then throwing it by holding the controller directly in front of them and swinging it up instead of like you would a bowling ball. That managed to hit at least center instead of the far left about half the time. When I tried to throw it directly straight it went backward into the crowd. Which was only funny the first 4 or 5 times. |

Why do I say this? The company spends months passing hints to gamers pre-release about a new console codenamed 'Revolution', with juicy sounding technical specifications, and promising to blow the Xbox clean out of the water. Then, the marketing people decide that what the console really needs is a name change ... So they call it the Wii. How were they planning to advertise this on TV? Bring Keith Harris and Orville the Duck out of retirement? I can picture it now ... "I wanna go Wii ..." UK members who are familiar with Orville the Duck will understand this by the way. The rest of you, just smile and nod your heads. What's their next console going to be called? The Potty? All I can say is that given how much style matters to teenagers these days, that console had better deliver a MASSIVE amount of bang for the buck in performance terms to compensate the buyers for having to say "I got a Wii" ... Whatever happened to exciting names like Jaguar or Saturn? Names that carried some kudos? Names with the kind of associations any half decent manufacturer WANTS to attach to its console - power, being way out ahead of the competition etc. Or did Nintendo think it was all too easy, and that they needed to handicap their prodcut with a stupid name to stop it taking over the world? If that was the kind of delusion of grandeur affecting their minds, they should put their analysts on danger money ... |

The person backing up the name said everyone will just get used to calling it the wii but then throughout the interview continued to call it the revolution. I do think it has impacted some of their sales. I've heard alot of people laugh at the name and then say they don't really want to get one. Not that it's that bad of game system. Out of all the movement sensitive controllers this probably ranks as the best setup accomplished so far. Unless you ask the people who got a bit too into swinging the controller around and lost their grip on it. A few tvs have been broken already. http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/20/wiimote-strap-breaks-controller-destroys-tv/ |
