I've read the reviews and whatnot, but it would be nice to get some feedback from actual real people. Is this game as good as everyone says? If it makes a difference, I'd be getting the PC version.

I have it for pc. It's stellar if you like open ended RPGs. I had Morrowind before it and loved that game too. I liked the story line in morrowind a bit better, but Oblivion isn't lacking. They really cleaned up some unnecessary things that were in morrowind(like medium armor and a few skills that weren't any good) and made travelling tons easier, though you can't fast travel to places you haven't been, except for cities, which is sort of logical. They made bartering a bit more realistic and speechcraft and lock picking are a bit more fun with a little mini game fore each. Also, they made the mage a bit more useful, as your magica continually replenishes itself so you have to use less potions. With the use of the right combinations of potions and spells and enchantments VERY deadly spells can be cast at high levels. Overall it's also a bit more challenging than morrowind as well. From observation, every five levels or so the monsters get much tougher, and the rewards get a little better. So at level 19 you might be cruising along, but I wouldn't enter an oblivion gate at level 20. I got smushed like an ant a couple times before I figured it out.

It's also very beautiful....if your computer can handle it. I have a pentium 4 1.8 ghz, 1 Gig of ram, and a radeon 9600 gfx card and my computer craps the bed when there's more than a couple people/monsters fighting on the screen(which happens a lot). I know my computer isn't top of the line, or close, but it handled most games pretty well up until this one. It made me want to go buy a new gfx card.

I've heard good things about it, but I haven't played it...

I do know that it supports HDR and has some crazy nice graphics if your computer supports it.

See if you can find a demo online before you buy it. Check out www.cnet.com and www.nzone.com

Doesn't look like a demo exists... Good idea though, hadn't thought about that.

According to Gamespot.com, my computer meets the minimum and recommended system requirements. I've heard this game is bloodthirsty graphics-wise.

What's the specs of your comp?

I couldn't find a demo of Oblivion anywhere... I guess you're right... there isn't one...

It's a Dell with Pentium 4, speed 3 GHz, 1 gigabyte ram, 130 gigabyte hard drive, Windows XP, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE video card, and an 8x DVD-ROM deal. That's what I know.

Yup, yer comp should definately be able to run it just fine! You probably won't be able to run everything maxed, but you should be good...

I personally won't use a computer with less than 1gb of ram, but that's just my preference...
